SUBJECT: In-Service Meeting
This Friday, June 16, from 9 a.m. to app. 3 p.m., the Library will be conducting an in-
service workshop to establish a mission statement for the organization, a roster of goals
and objectives for the organization as a whole and individual division goals.
Our facilitator for this meeting will be John Gavares, from the Center for Organizational
Management. Also in attendance will be three members of our Library Board, several
members from the Foundation Board and possibly a Council member.
Full time employees are asked to attend. In addition, I would like to invite part time
employees interested in helping to shape the Library's future to join us. However, due
to a need for continuity in participation, attendance at the entire program is required.
Those individuals who sign up, must attend the entire event from 9 to 3 p.m.. Attached
to this memo is a list of questions that need to be completed prior to the workshop.
Please bring them with you Friday morning.
Lunch will be catered in for those attending.
If you are interested in attending, please let your Division Head know by Wednesday, 5

Pre-Workshop Worksheets
We will develop agreement at our June 16th Strategic Planning and Team Building
Workshop as to our vision, mission and our short and long term goals. The following
worksheet is designed to develop readiness for the workshop and to "jump start" the
development of these products. The worksheet can be completed in about fifteen to
twenty minutes. Please bring these completed worksheets to the Workshop.
I. Vision Statement: Vision statements describe a condition or future for your
organization or community that is better in some important ways than what now
exists. Vision statements articulate a view that is lofty and inspirational, and that
is a realistic (with a stretch!), attractive future of the organization.
Imagine that it is June 16, 2002, and the Rancho Cucamonga Library has just won
two national awards for being' the "Best Run Library" and the "Most Impactful
Library in their Community." In the space below, please describe why you have
won the award. Why is working at the Library such a great place to work? In what
ways has the Library impacted the community? Please be as specific as possible.
