'CALL TO ORDER II A special meeting of the Rancho Cucamonga City Council was held on Monday, June 4, 2007, in the Council Chambers of the Civic Center located at 10500 Civic Center Drive, Rancho Cucamonga, California. Mayor Pro Tem Diane Williams called the meeting to order at 6:07 p.m. Present were Councilmembers: Rex Gutierrez, L. Dennis Michael, Sam Spagnolo and Mayor Pro Tem Diane Williams Absent was: Mayor Donald J. Kurth, M.D. Also present were: Jack Lam, City Manager; Fabian Villenas, Management Analyst III; Kimberly Thomas, Management Analyst III; John Gillison, Deputy City Manager/Community Development; Mike Toy, Information Systems Specialist; Jose Ramirez, Information Systems Specialist; Robert Lemon, Management Analyst III; James Troyer, Planning Director; Kevin McArdle, Community Services Director; Nettie Nielsen, Community Services Superintendent; Francie Palmer, Marketing Manager; Robert Karatsu, Assistant Library Director; Michelle Perera, Library Services Manager; Vivian Garcia, Sr. Administrative Secretary; Chief Peter Bryan, Deputy Chief Mike Bell and Fire Inspector Susan De Antonio, Rancho Cucamonga Fire Protection District; Captain Pete Ortiz, Rancho Cucamonga Police Department; Kathryn L. Scott, Assistant City Clerk; Shirr'I Griffin, Office Specialist II -City Clerk's office; and Debra J. Adams, City Clerk. Mayor Pro Tem Williams announced that Mayor Kurth had heart bypass surgery this morning and reported that he is doing very well. She wished him a speedy recovery. B. ANNOUNCEMENTS/PRESENTATIONS 61. Recognition of "Gator" of the Rancho Cucamonga Fire Department Canine Accelerant Detection Team in honor of his retirement after nine years of service to the community. "Gator" and Fire Inspector Susan De Antonio, along with Chief Bryan and Deputy Chief Bell, came forward to recognize "Gator" as he retires from the Rancho Cucamonga Fire Protection District. Fire Inspector Susan De Antonio was recognized for her work in this program as well. Deputy Chief Bell told about Inspector De Antonio's dedication to this program and her 31 years with the Fire Department. Chief Bryan said they are very proud of not only "Gator," but also Inspector De Antonio. Inspector De Antonio talked about the Youth Ambassador Program that "Gator" was involved in. She told how the program started in 1994. A certificate was presented to "Gator" and Inspector De Antonio for their efforts. Councilmember Michael added that when he was Fire Chief, Inspector De Antonio came to him asking to start this fire canine accelerant detection program. He told about other cities asking to use our canine program for arson cases. Special City Council Meeting Minutes June 4, 2007 Page 2 Councilmember Spagnolo stated he has had the pleasure of working with Inspector De Antonio on fire calls when he was with the Rancho Cucamonga Fire Protection District. B2. Presentation of five California Parks and Recreation Society Awards of Excellence received for the Victoria Gardens Cultural Center. Antonio Karraa, Park and Recreation Commissioner, and Nettie Nielsen, Community Services Superintendent, came forward to present the awards received from the California Park and Recreation Society to the City Council. B3. Presentation of Certificates to donors and sponsors of the "Ron Ives Bicycle Safety Rodeo" Deputy Greg Hill and Deputy Ron Wright told the history of the bicycle rodeo's beginning. A power point presentation was given by Deputy Hill and Deputy Wright explaining this event. All the donors and sponsors involved with this event came forward to receive their certificates of appreciation. The Mayor Pro Tem and City Council presented certificates of appreciation Deputies Hill and Wright for organizing the bicycle rodeo. B4. Presentation of Proclamations and Certificates to hosts and sponsors for their support of the Rancho Cucamonga Public Library Telethon. Robert Karatsu, Assistant Library Director, and Michelle Perera, Library Services Manager, came forward to talk about the success of the telethon and where the money is going. They called up those people that sponsored and assisted with the telethon to make it as successful as it was. Library Foundation Member Rebecca Davies told about the partnership between the schools and the Library. Michelle Perera, Library Services Manager, stated this telethon was dedicated to Joyce Womack who recently passed away. ,....... Special City Council Meeting Minutes June 4, 2007 Page 3 D. ADJOURNMENT MOTION: Moved by Gutierrez, seconded by Williams to adjourn. Motion carried 3-0-2 (Kurth and Spagnolo absent).
