If you have room in your home and love in your heart, please
consider becoming a foster care volunteer. By becoming part of
our Foster Care Program you will be helping animals that are too
young to be adopted out or may be recovering from injuries,
medical treatment or those in need of socialization. You will be
responsible around the clock for the animal's safety, comfort
and general well-being; a responsibility that can be exhausting,
especially when caring for young puppies and kittens.
It is a commitment full of rewards!

Hundreds of different species of animals coexist in the hillsides and
open fields of our communities. As we bulldoze and cement these areas
to make room for more homes and bigger roads, animals of all types -
skunks, raccoons, opossums, feral cats, mice, foxes, gophers, lizards, and
dozens more - are displaced and involuntarily forced to live among us.
No Food Means No Critters
Be sure your garbage can lids are on tight. Raccoons are strong and
remarkably dexterous, so secure your can with a bungee cord if
necessary. Recyclables should be cleaned and rinsed thoroughly of food
deposits and smells.
Guarding the Garden
Gardens offer an irresistible treat to deer, rabbits and other herbivores.
Erecting a fence around a garden is the best and most popular method
of keeping animals away from your garden.
Fledgling Birds
If you come across a baby bird that has feathers, its eyes are open and it is able to move away
from you, then the best thing to do is let it be! The parents will find it and continue to take care
of it wherever it is. Baby birds do not leave the nest knowing how to fly. They initially fall out of
the nest and start clinging to branches or brush. They stay close to the ground for 1 - 2 weeks
and start flying with short hops from branch to branch. The hops gradually get longer until the
bird eventually flies.
