AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO
CUC~MONGA, CALIFORNIA, SECTION 10.20.0Z0 OF THE RANCHO
CUC~MONGA CITY CODE REGARDING PRIMA FACIE SPEED LIMITS
UPON CERTAIN CITY STREETS
A. Recitals.
(i) California Vehicle Code Section 22358 provides that this City
Council may, by ordinance, set prima facie speed limits upon any portion of
any street not a state highway.
(ii) The City Traffic Engineer has conducted an engineering and
traffic survey, of certain streets within the City of Rancho Cucamonga which
streets are specified in Part B of this Ordinance.
(iii) The determinations concerning prima facie speed limits set
forth in Part B, below, are based upon the engineering and traffic survey
identified in Section A (ii), above.
B. Ordinance
NOW, T~EREFORE, T~E CITY COUNCIL OF T~E CITY OF RANCHO CUCAMONGA
DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS
SECTION 15
Section 10.20.020 hereby is amended to the Rancho CucamonEa City
Code to read, in wo~s and fiEuz~s~ as follows~
10.Z0.020 Decrease of state law ~aximum speed. It is detem~/ned by
City Council resolution and upon the basis of an engineering and traffle
investigation that the speed pe~mitted by state law is E~eater than is
reasonable or safe under the conditions found to exist upon such streets, and
it is declared that the pr~a facie speed l~%t shall be as set forth in this
section on those streets or parts of streets deslEnated in this section when

.ii) ' B~; sixty-fiy~ (65) miles per hour and fifty-five (55) miles
per hour are speed~ ~ich are .more than are reasonable or safe;
(ii) The mi~es per hour as stated are the prima faele speeds which
are most appropriate to facilitate the orderly movement of traffic and ar*
speed limits which are reasonable and safe on said streets or portions
thereof;
(iii) The miles per hour stated are hereby declared to be the
prima facie speed limits on said streets; and
(iv) The DirectOr of Maintenance Services is hereby authorized and
directed to install appropriate signs upon said streets giving notice of the
prima faole speed limit declared herein.
SECTION 2: The Mayor shall sign this Ordinance and the City Clerk
shall cause the same to be published within fifteen (15) days after its
passage at least once in The Daily Report, a newspaper of general circulation
published in the City of Ontario, California, and circulated in the City of
Rancho Cucamonga, California.
PASSED, APPROVED, and ADOPTED this 20th day of November, 1985.
