Recitals. (i) The County of San Bernardino has adopted a uniform system of house numbering for the County and said uniform numbering system has been made a part of the County General Plan. (ii) Tne City of Rancho Cucamonga has continued the County uniform numbering system since incorporation. (iii) It is necessary for the purpose of emergency response to maintain a numbering system that is consistent with other jurisdictions and as free of confusion as possible. (iv) All legal prerequisites to the adoption of this Ordinance Pave occurred. NOW, TrIBREFORE, the City Council of the City of Rancho Cucamonga does hereby find, determine and ordain as follows: SECTION 1: In all respects as set forth in the Recitals, Part A, of this Ordinance. SECT/ON 2: Section s 63.071 through 63.076, inclusive of the San Bernardino COunty Code adopted by Ordinance No. 17 of the City of Rancho Cucamonga are hereby deleted. SECTION 3: Title 8 of the Ranc~o Cucamonga Municipal Code, entitled "Health and Safety", of the City of Rancho Cucannnga is hereby amex~ed by addition of Chapter 8.26 to read as follc~s: Chapter 8.26',~ Sections: 8.26.010 Assigrment of Street Acldresses 8.26.020 Posting Required 8.26.030 Size and Location of Numbers 8.26.040 Multi-Building Properties 8.26.050 Street Address Numbering Review 8.26.060 Enforcement Ordinance No. 418 Page 2 8.26.01Q Assiqnment of Street Ac~r~.c~_~. Street addresses shall be designated and assigned by the Cc~mmity Development Department, a designated division thereof or other agency in cooperation with the Caromunity Development Department. 8.26,020. Posting Required. Street address numbers shall be conspicously posted and thereafter maintained on each building located in the City of Rancho Cucamonga. EXCEPT/ONS: 1. Buildings aocessory to residential blildings. 2. When street address numbers for a single family residence would not be visible from the street due to distance frcm the street or o~struction, numbers may be posted on a post or other independent structure. Such numbers mounted shall otherwise meet the requirenents of this chapter. Numbers posted on free standing mail boxes, are acceptable under the provisions of this subsection provided no more than ~ne mailbox is installed at the same location. 8.26,030 Size and Location of Numh~_r~. All street address numbers posted pursuant to this Chapter shall meet the following minimum requirements. a. Numbers shall be no less than four (4) inches in height with a corresponding width. b. Numbers and their background colors are to be of significantly contrasting shades. c.Numbers are to be readily visible and reaa~ble from the street on which the hailding or building fronts. d. Numbers painted on curbs are not acceptable as a substitute for the requirements of this Chapter. 8.26.040 Multi-Buildinq PropertiM. Properties developed with more than one main building and where visibility to all building street numbers frce the street is obstructed or is otherwise unreadable, shall, in addition to the numbering for individual buildings, also be provided with independent structures located adjacent to the street frontage upon which the address numbers have been assigned, showing in readily visible fashion, the beginning and ending numbers assigned to that parcel. Where numbers are assigned on more than one street frontage, such independent structures shall be provided on each frontage. Ordinance No. 418 Page 3 8.26.050 Street Address Num~erir~ Review... For other than single family residential properties, location, size, contrast, visibility and mounting of street address numbers for new projects shall be subject to and a part of review under the "land Development Revie%~' process of Chapter 17.06 of the Rancho Cucamonga Municipal Code. 8.26,060 Enforcement. The Building and Safety Division shall be responsible for initial installation of street address numbers required by this Chapter. The Fire Chief of the Rancho Cucamonga Fire District shall be responsible for enforcement of maintenance provisions of this Chapter. SECT/ON 4: The Mayor shall sign this Ordinance and the City Clerk shall cause the same to be published within fifteen (15) days after its passage at least once in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, a newspaper of general circulation published in the City of Ontario, California, and circulated in the City of Rancho Cucamonga, California.
