PRESENTS PRESENTS UPCOMING EVENTS: JANUARY – MARCH 2018 5 WINTER 2018 GRAPEVINE THEATRELewisFamilyPlayhouse.com Oh Freedom! tells the story of the greatest collaboration against racism in American History before the Civil Rights Movement. Mixing historical accounts with songs from the period, this thought-provoking play reminds us that it took the bravery and collaboration of many people, both black and white, to help hundreds of enslaved people make their way to freedom. Due to serious subject matter, this production is not suitable for children under 10. Nina has just returned to her Washington Heights neighborhood from her freshman year at Stanford. Unsure of her plans to return, her parents struggle to keep their small business alive and Benny, their young employee, does his best to help the company stay afloat; Usnavi operates a tiny bodega, and his love interest, Vanessa, only dreams of finding a studio apartment in the coveted West Village. When the winning lottery ticket, a power outage, and romantic tension all hit the ‘hood, the long-time friends and neighbors make discoveries about each other, themselves, and about the place they all call home. World Spay Day February 27 It's the Right Choice: For You, Your Pet and Rancho Cucamonga World Spay Day is an annual campaign of The HSUS, Humane Society International and the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Associations. The campaign shines a spotlight on the power of affordable, accessible spay/neuter services to save the lives of companion animals, community (feral and stray) cats, dogs and rabbits. Take action on February 27, 2018 and promote the many benefits of spaying an neutering pets! Spaying and neutering is good for your pet, you, and the community. • Dogs and cats will be healthier and live a longer, happier life. • Your dog or cat will be a better, more affectionate companion. • Your pet will be better behaved, friendlier and less likely to fight, bite, or run away. • Your neutered cat is less likely to spray and mark territory. February is nationally recognized as Spay/Neuter Awareness Month. The purpose is to encourage people to have their pets sterilized before the spring and summer months when there is a rampant overproduction of puppies and kittens. During that time, most animal shelters experience an unimaginable increase in animal intake. Spay/neutering helps to decrease those numbers and save pets' lives. Promotions held December 1 through December 30 at the RC Animal Care and Adoption Center, including a special raffle for those who adopt a featured pet. The Center will be accepting donations for new pet toys, cozy blankets, and treats throughout the holiday season. Our homeless pets have one holiday wish - a new home! With your help we can make their wish come true. Contact the Center by phone, website or email and be sure to Like us on Facebook. Furry Friends Flea Market March 10 For a great deal on unique items, the Furry Friends Flea Market is the "shopportunity" of a lifetime! HOLIDAY CLOSURES: The RC Animal Care and Adoption Center will be closed November 23 and 24, December 24, 25, and 31, and January 1. January You may have made your New Year's Resolution to get healthier which may include walking more. Lucky for you, it's National Walk Your Pet Month. Take your dog along and work on your resolutions together! Here are some tips for walking your dog: Walking your dog is bonding time Walking together is a great time to focus on training your dog and strengthening the bond between you. Bring the necessities Make the walk pleasant for you, your dog, and those around you. Always carry bags for cleaning up and disposing waste, and be sure to keep your pet leashed, even if you're only going on a short stroll through the neighborhood. Change it up To make walks more fun for you and your dog, pick new paths and travel off the beaten path, go to exciting places like the dog park, or take walks with friends and their pets. Safety after dark During the winter it gets dark early. If you normally walk your dog before sunrise or into the late afternoon and early evening hours, you want to make sure you can be seen by motorists, bicyclists, pedestrians and other dog walkers. Know how far to go Factors to consider are your dog's size (especially the length of his or her legs), breed, age, general health, and the walking environment. 9 WINTER 2018 GRAPEVINE LIBRARYRCpark.com Rancho Cucamonga Public Libraries ARCHIBALD (7368 ARCHIBALD AVENUE) PAUL A.
