Rancho CucamongaAnimalCarean d A d o p t i o n C e n t e r Traveling With Your Pet - If you plan to travel with your pet this summer, preparation is the key to a happy vacation. Traveling with pets can be highly stressful for both you and your pets. Here are some helpful tips to make that journey less hectic: •Visit your veterinarian to make sure your pet is up to date on vaccinations. •Bring proof of current vaccinations if traveling across state lines. •Make sure your pet has a microchip or ID tag. •If your pet has not traveled by car before, take it for several short rides before your trip. •Bring plenty of plastic jugs filled with water from home.Drinking water the pet is not used to could upset his/her stomach. •Bring favorite toys as well as favorite food and dishes. •Make plenty of rest stops (every 2 hours)so you and your pet can stretch your legs and go to the bathroom. •Stick to your regular feeding schedule. •If driving, never leave your pet in a parked automobile. •If staying with friends along the way,be considerate.Or research prior to leaving, pet friendly hotels or other accommodations. June is Adopt a Shelter Cat Month - The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA)is celebrating June as Adopt A Shelter Cat Month. They want to “encourage all Americans to make pet adop- tion their first option and educate people about improving quality of life through the compan- ionship of a cat.” Our Animal Center has a variety of adorable, fun,and cuddly felines just waiting for a new home.Come for a visit today and see which new four legged friend will melt your heart. Don’t forget about our 2 Fur 1 Program! When you adopt two cats, we’ll waive the adoption fee on the second cat. Two cats can keep each other company while their owners are at work or school all day. Pets and Summer Safety - Summertime is usually a fun time for family and pets, but it comes with hazards as well.Keep the following in mind: •Lawn fertilizer and insecticides can be harmful to pets. There are also over 700 plants that have active toxic substances that can cause harmful effects in animals. •Pets and pools can be a dangerous pair. •Pets need exercise in summer, but extra care should be taken in the heat, especially with older dogs and those with short muzzles.Exercise pets in the morning or evening when the temperature is coolest. •Know the signs and symptoms of heatstroke, which are heavy panting, glazed eyes, rapid heart beat, restlessness, excessive thirst,lethargy,fever,dizziness,vomiting,and/or a deep red or purple tongue. •Skunks, raccoons, porcupines, snakes and other wildlife can injure your pet.Keep your pet in your sight and on a leash. •A bandanna soaked in water and cooled in the refrigerator, then placed around your pet’s neck, will aid in keeping them cool. •Parasites are out in full force in summer, take preventative action.
