BACKGROUND/ANALYSIS The City has received two State Transportation Development Act Pedestrian/Bicycle grants. The first grant is for the construction of the connection of the Pacific Electric Trail with a pedestrian/bicycle trail along the County's Day Creek Channel maintenance road (day trail) which runs north and south adjacent to the Day Creek drainage channel. For safety considerations, this grant will also fund connections from the day trail to public streets at both the north and south ends (at Highland Avenue and Base Line Road). The inclusion of these two connections will provide an exit from the day trail. The second grant is to provide connections from public streets to the County's Deer Creek Channel maintenance road (deer trail). This second grant will also fund trail improvements between connection points on the deer trail as well as the day trail. The two grants funding these trail improvements are from the State's Transportation Development Act Article 3 grants. These grants are administered by SANBAG. The grants are to be used for bicycle and pedestrian facilities with ADA compliant surfaces. The grants require a match of local funds.
