BEING CREATED AS PART OF THE LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA
CITIES GRASSROOTS NETWORK
WHEREAS, in 2001, the member cities of the League of California Cities
approved the creation of a Grassroots Network; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the Grassroots Network is to increase the
effectiveness of cities' joint efforts to protect local control and reduce the likelihood of city
revenues being taken away by the State; and

Counties and the California Special Districts Association in a coalition to coordinate their efforts
in protecting local services. Called LOCAL (Leave Our Community Assets Local), the coalition
provides a framework for united actions by local government units; and
WHEREAS, the LOCAL Coalition has successfully enlisted groups including
business, public health, public safety, seniors and others to join local officials in highlighting the
ramifications of state budget cuts to local services; and
WHEREAS, the Inland Empire Division of the League of California Cities has
been meeting with leaders of local organized labor organizations to enlist their support of the
LOCAL Coalition's efforts to protect local government for the benefit of both cities and labor.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Rancho Cucamonga that:
The City of Rancho Cucamonga hereby endorses and supports the following
proposed Mission Statement of the local government/labor coalition being
created as part of the League of California Cities Grassroots Network:
Organized Labor and Local Governments agree to work together
with other advocates to lobby California State Government to
protect local government services and revenues, and jobs with fair
wages and benefits. Together we recognize the importance of
maintaining local revenue streams to preserve and create good
paying jobs and promote economic growth while continuing to
provide basic services and protect the quality of life for our
communities. As partners, we will remain united to support issues
