“Good stewardship of the environment is not
just a personal responsibility, it is a public
value... Our duty is to use the land well,
and sometimes not to use it at all. This is our
responsibility as citizens, but more than that,
it is our calling as stewards of the earth.”
- President George W. Bush
For many years, the City of Rancho Cucamonga has demonstrated a strong
commitment to land stewardship, striving to preserve the natural beauty, ecological
integrity, and rural character of our foothills and front country. In a remarkable step
forward, the City is in the process of purchasing 122 acres surrounding the Cucamonga
Canyon Trail, marking a significant expansion of its conservation efforts. This milestone
will support the preservation, rehabilitation, and protection of the area’s natural and
cultural resources, addressing key conservation priorities identified in the City’s
General Plan and a multi-agency management plan developed by the U.S. Forest
Service, the City of Rancho Cucamonga, the County of San Bernardino, and other local
organizations. Cucamonga Canyon, which is ecologically linked to the Cucamonga
Wilderness Area, plays a vital role in supporting sensitive and threatened species.
This acquisition will also create new opportunities for recreation and conservation,
enhancing the area’s unparalleled beauty.
This accomplishment is made possible through federal and state grants and
collaboration with the Inland Empire Resource Conservation District. Importantly, the
purchase of these 122 acres is being done without impacting the City’s General Fund.
Additional external funding will further support improvements to recreational trails and
safety enhancements while preserving the privacy of nearby residents.
To strengthen environmental protection and public safety, the City is also in the
process of installing wildfire early detection cameras along the urban interface within
its boundaries. Funded through a grant from the State of California, these cameras will
provide real-time infrared and video monitoring of fire-prone areas, enabling early
intervention and enhanced emergency response efforts. This initiative is a proactive
step toward reducing wildfire risks to both natural and residential areas.
The City’s ongoing efforts include expanding wildfire early detection systems,
planning for future firefighting facilities and equipment, and implementing strategic
brush clearance across Rancho Cucamonga’s front country. Through careful planning,
community collaboration, and the integration of innovative technologies, the City
continues to balance responsible growth with environmental sustainability, ensuring
that these cherished natural landscapes are preserved for generations to come.
Sincerely,
John R. Gillison, City Manager

Rancho Cucamonga is on the move—literally.
With a focus on safety, accessibility, and
sustainability, the City is investing in
infrastructure to create a more connected
community. From modernizing key corridors
to expanding scenic trails, these projects
are transforming how people walk, bike,
and drive through the city.
The West Foothill Boulevard
Improvement Project is enhancing the
city’s western gateway, improving mobility
for pedestrians, cyclists, transit users, and
motorists. Stretching from San Bernardino
Road to Grove Avenue, key upgrades
include multi-use sidewalks, fresh asphalt,
new streetlights, and updated striping.
A major highlight is the realignment of
Red Hill Country Club Drive with Foothill
Boulevard, creating a seamless four-
way traffic signal to improve circulation.
Funded through the SB1 Local Partnership
Program, this project aligns with the City’s
General Plan and PlanRC initiative while
preserving the corridor’s rich history.
At the same time, the City is expanding its
active transportation network. The San Sevaine
Multi-Use Trail is extending from Fontana to Banyan
Street, opening in Spring 2025. Day Creek Channel Bike Trail improvements will extend
the route from Base Line Road to Jack Benny Drive, with a new signalized crossing
at Church Street for safer access to key destinations.
For cyclists, the 6th Street Cycle Track Project introduces a Class IV protected bikeway
from Haven Avenue to Rochester Avenue, integrating with Metrolink and the Day Creek
Channel Trail for safer, car-free travel.
These projects highlight Rancho Cucamonga’s commitment to a balanced, sustainable
transportation network, ensuring residents and visitors can move safely and efficiently—
whether on foot, by bike, or behind the wheel.
With each new improvement, Rancho Cucamonga
is not just planning for the future—
it’s paving the way for it.

Our Sheriff’s Service
Specialists (SSS) play
a critical role in
managing administrative tasks,
coordinating non-emergency services,
and handling an abundance of
paperwork. Their duties include
enforcing parking ordinances, issuing
parking citations, and managing vehicles
by investigating, impounding, and
releasing them as needed. The position
also involves responding to minor, non-
injury traffic accidents, where they take
reports, assist with traffic management,
and help ensure public safety at the
scene. SSS’s also handle citizen inquiries
and requests for law enforcement
assistance, whether at a public counter,
over the phone, or in the field. They
author reports that do not include
suspect contact and provide guidance
to community members seeking help.
Another aspect of the position
includes interviewing the public,
victims, and other involved parties to
gather information and facts related
to minor traffic accidents or crimes.
This involves collecting background
information on individuals or property
and accessing confidential law
enforcement databases to retrieve
necessary data. This includes
providing accurate and clear
information, explaining procedures,
and participating in crime prevention
programs or educational activities
aimed at enhancing public safety.
Overall, this role supports the
Sheriff’s Department by handling
tasks that help maintain order and
ensure a positive relationship with
the community, while allowing sworn
officers to focus on high-priority calls
and critical duties.
They are representatives
of the Sheriff’s
Department, promoting
cooperation between
the department and
the community.

The 4th of July is a cherished time for family and friends to come
together, celebrating with food, laughter, and the sparkle of fireworks.
However, it’s important to remember that fireworks, while dazzling,
can also be extremely dangerous. In 2023 alone, 9,700 people
across the United States were treated in emergency rooms for
firework-related injuries (Source: cpsc.gov).
This Independence Day, don’t let a preventable injury
ruin your celebration. Instead, enjoy a safe, breathtaking
professional fireworks display with your loved ones
at the City of Rancho Cucamonga’s 4th of July
Fireworks Spectacular at Quakes Stadium
sponsored by Hamilton’s Brewery!
Your efforts make a difference. By helping to prevent the use of illegal fireworks, you contribute to reducing injuries,
