HomeMy WebLinkAbout93-028 - ResolutionsRESOI331~ONNO. 93-028 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OOUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO ~, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING HISTORIC ~ DESIGNATION 93-03, THEREBY DESIGNATING THE HOPPE HOUSE, LOCATt~ AT 6155 EAST AVENUE, RANCHO ~, AS AN - APN: 225-191-16 WHEREAS, Vanessa and Wayne Smith have filed an application for Landmark Designation 93-03, as described in the title of this Resolution. Hereinafter in this R~solution, the subject Landmark Designation is referred to as the "application." WHEREAS, On January 12, 1993, the Historic Preservation Ccmmtission of the City of Rancho Cucamongaconductedadulynoticedpublic hearing on the application and, following the conclusion of said public hearing, adopted Resolution No. 93-02, thereby recommend~ to this City Council that said application be approved. WHEREAS, on February 17, 1993, the City Council of the City of Rancho Cucamonga conducted a meeting on the application and concluded said meeting on that date. WHEREAS, all legal prerequisites prior to the adoption of this Resolution have occurred. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Rancho Cucamonga does hereby find, deterrmine, andresolve as follows: SECTION 1: The application applies to property located at Assessor Parcel Number 225-191-16. SS~/CION 2: The Hoppe family has contributed to development of this region since their arrival in Grapeland from Santa Monica in 1898. The family moved to Etiwanda in 1900, planted lemon and orange trees and constructed their ranch home in 1912. The house stands today as a ~ration to the legacy of the Etiwanda ccmm~-0nity and the Hoppe family's contributions to this The proposed landmark meets the following criteria established in Chapter 2.24.090 of the Rancho Cucamonga Municipal Code: A. Historical and Cultural Significance: The proposed landmark is particularlyrepresentative of an historical period, type, style, region, or way of life. The proposed landmark is an example of a type of building which was once common. but is now rare. 3e The proposed landmark was connected with someone renowned, important, or a local personality. ~solution No. 93-028 Page 2 The proposed landmark is connected with a business or use which was once co.non but is now rare. B. Neighborhood and Geographic Setting: The proposed landmark materially benefits the historic character of the neighborhood. The proposed Landmark, in its location, represents an established and familiar visual feature of the neighborhood, om, u~rkity and City (Ord. 70 S9, 1979). SECTION 3: Designation of a Landmark is exempt from C~QA (Article 19, Section 15308). St~2TION 4: Based on the substantial evidence received and reviewed by this Council and basedonthe findings set forth above, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Rancho Cucamonga approves the designation of the HoppeHouse as an Historic Landmark.
