A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING A LEASE
AGREEMENT BETWEEN SAN BERNARDINO ASSOCIATED
GOVERNMENTS (SANBAG) AND THE CITY OF RANCHO
CUCAMONGA FOR THE ETIWANDA RAILWAY STATION AND
THE PACIFIC ELECTRIC RAILWAY RIGHT-OF-WAY
EXTENDING FROM WESTERLY TO EASTERLY CITY LIMITS.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Rancho Cucamonga has for its
consideration a Lease Agreement between the City of Rancho Cucamonga and San Bernardino
Associated Governments (SANBAG) for the Etiwanda Railway Station property located at 7089
Etiwanda Avenue, along with approximately 4 acres of land, and the entire SANBAG right-of-
way of the former Southern Pacific Baldwin Park Branch. This right-of-way is famous as the
Pacific Electric Railway that was built through the community in the 1910s.
WHEREAS, as the responsible agency, SANBAG, in conjunction with the City of
Rancho Cucamonga acting as the lead agency, funded and completed the preparation of a
Master Plan for the Pacific Electric Inland Empire Trail that was adopted by this City Council.
The Master Plan identified the Etiwanda Railway Station as a potential "signature trailhead."
WHEREAS, as the responsible agency for regional transportation planning, the
San Bernardino Associated Governments (SANBAG) prepared a Non-Motorized Transportation
Plan 2001 Update for San Bernardino County, which serves as the Bicycle Transportation Plan
(BTP) for the Pacific Electric Inland Empire Trail project, and recommends said project as a
highest priority project in the primary bikeway system for the region.
WHEREAS, it is the mutual desire of City and SANBAG to develop the Pacific
Electric Inland Empire Trail and supporting facilities.
WHEREAS, the Lease Agreement is required to obtain certain grant funding for,
and to develop, the Pacific Electric Inland Empire Trail, a 21-mile long regional trail that will
bisect the City of Rancho Cucamonga.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Rancho Cucamonga, hereby
resolves that said Lease Agreement between the City of Rancho Cucamonga and San
Bernardino Associated Governments (SANBAG) be hereby approved and the Mayor is hereby
authorized to sign said Agreement on behalf of the City of Rancho Cucamonga, and the City
Clerk to attest thereto.
