A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CALIFORNIA, OPPOSING
PROPOSITION 9
WHEREAS, the State of California recently restructured the electric industry; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the electric restructuring laws was to provide customers
with a competitive electricity market and the ability to choose energy service providers; and
WHEREAS, the City of Rancho Cucamonga recently entered into an agreement with
a new energy service provider in order to achieve savings for the City; and
WHEREAS, Proposition 9 has the potential to disrupt California's restructured
electricity market; and
WHEREAS, the proposition also has the potential to undermine the City's new
contract with the State Department of General Services and Commonwealth, Inc., as well as our
efforts to realize savings on our electric bills; and
WHEREAS, Proposition 9 creates numerous fiscal uncertainties including the
taxpayers' possible obligation for repayment of rate reduction bonds.
NOW, THEREFORE THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OR RANCHO
CUCAMONGA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
1. The City of Rancho Cucamonga opposes Proposition 9.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED this 16th day of September, 1998.
