Test boring or other soil investigations, approved by SCRRA shall be made, to determine the in the nature of the underlying material for all pipelines with sizes equal or greater than 48 inches in diameter. The test boring should be made on the centerline of the pipe near the end of tie (if possible) on each side of the tracks and as deep as the bottom of the bore ". 7. Rail elevations over the work must be monitored at intervals prescribed by SCRRA to detect any track movement. Movements over 1/4 It vertically shall be immediately reported to SCRRA. SCRRA will be surface the track several times in one year if there is any movement at installer's cost" 8. The boring, tunneling or jacking operation shall be progressed on a 24 -hour basis without stoppage when casing in 20 feet from the centerline of the nearest track ". 9. Construction at the Rail Road right -of -way, the contractor shall submit a detailed project schedule within and near the rail road right -of -way area to SCRRA where flagging is needed to verify that the schedule accounts for train operations. For safety reason minimize activities during train operations (e.g. perform work at night or weekends) 10. SCRRA requires contractors survey crew to provide rail elevations prior to boring under the tracks (48 "0 or greater pipes) and every 2 -3 hours during the initial jacking of the pipe under the railroad tracks to monitor and detect any track movement. Movementsover 1/4" vertically shall be immediately reported to SCRRA if there is any movement SCRRA will surface the track at licensee and /or installers' cost. MWD GENERAL NOTES: 1) MWD require the shoring plans and locations for all related pits, and the methodology and detailed procedures for the jacking operation under our pipeline, including all related requirements, must be submitted for our review and written approval at least 30 days prior to construction. The procedures must cover all aspects of the jacking operations including, but not limited to, dewatering, ground control, alignment and grouting. The submitted procedures must include provisions to control sloughing or running or wet ground, if encountered. Design calculations must follow the guidelines set forth in Title 8, Article 6, of the Construction Safety Orders. Accepted methods of analysis must be used. Loads must be in accordance with the Construction Safety Orders or a soil report by a geotechnical consultant. All members must be secured to prevent sliding, falling or kickouts. Provisions must be made to grout any voids around the exterior of jacked casing must be filled with grout. Before starting the shoring design, the design engineer should consult with Mike McReynolds of our Design Team, telephone (213) 217 -6694. 2) The procedures and the specifications of all construction equipment to be used for the removal, placement, and compaction of soil and pavement in the area of our pipeline must be submitted for MWD review and written approval at least 30 days prior to their use. Please note that we cannot allow any procedures that could subject our pipes to excessive impacts or vibratory loads. No vibratory equipment in vibratory mode may be used within 25 feet of the centerlines of our pipelines. 3) Notify Steve Bradley of our Water System Operations Group, telephone (909) 392 -5137, at least two working days Monday through Thrusday p6oir to starting any work in the vicinity of our facilities, including potholing. JACKING PIPE GENERAL NOTES: 1. At locations shown on the plans, or specified, reinforced concrete pipe shall be jacked into place between the limits shown, or specified, in accordance with these specifications. 2. The strength of pipe designated in the contract item will be determined for vertical load only. Additional reinforcement or strength of pipe required to withstand jacking pressure shall be determined and furnished by the Contractor at the Contractor's expense. 3. Variations from theoretical alignment and grade at the time of completion of jacking shall not exceed one percent of the distance from the the jacking point. 4. The diameter of the excavated hole shall not be more than 0.1 -foot greater than the outside limits of the pipe. Sluicing or jetting with water will not be permitted. When material tends to cave in from outside these limits, a shield shall be used ahead of the first section of pipe or the face of excavation shall not extend beyond the end of pipe more than 1-1/2 feet, unless permitted by the engineer. 5. Areas resulting from caving or excavating outside the above limits shall be backfilled with sand or mortar by a method which will fill the voids. 6. the annular space in the inside joints of the pipe shall be filled with jointing material and finished smooth. The space shall be finished as each section of pipe is installed for pipe 24 inches in diameter and smaller, and after the entire installation is completed for larger pipe. 7. Reinforced concrete pipes shall have Class V, Wall C, and shall conform to the current ASTM Specification C -76 8. The pipes shall have tongue and grove joints with D -lood 3000 9. Reinforced concrete pipes shall have gasketed leak- resistant RCP joints and should withstand a minimum hydrostatic internal head of 13 PSI and conform to ASTM Specification C 443. 10. Refer to SCRRA engineering standard ES5001 on sheet 9 for pipe line construction under the railroad tracks. 11.
