STAFF REPORT h i
ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES DEPARTMENT 14-#

To: Mayor and Members of the City Council
John R. Gillison, City Manager
From: Lori E. Sassoon, Deputy City Manager/Administrative Services
Subject: CITY COUNCIL WORKSHOP RE: TECHNOLOGY IN ACTION
The City Council periodically conducts special Council workshops in the community to discuss particular
topics of interest. These workshops provide an opportunity for residents and other stakeholders to
engage with the Council in a location outside of City Hall, that is convenient for the community, and
provide their feedback and opinions.
On Monday, October 15, 2012, the City Council will hold a workshop regarding the City's use of
technology in the delivery of more efficient and cost-effective services to our community. Because of the
topic, the Technology in Action Workshop format will differ from previous workshops. Rather than
making a staff presentation regarding technology, there will be an expo featuring Rancho Cucamonga
"technology in action." Attendees will have the opportunity to explore booths hosted by various city
departments to learn how each department deploys innovative technologies to better serve the
community, all through an interactive and hands-on experience. In addition, attendees will be able to
have a special technology "passport" stamped as they visit each booth, and then turn in that passport to
be entered into an opportunity drawing that will be held that evening.
The Technology in Action Workshop has been announced in a press release, on the City's website and
social media channels, on the electronic bulletin board at Vineyard and Foothill, and through our libraries
and community centers. In addition, invitations have been extended to our middle and high schools, and
we are expecting students to attend the event.
The following is an approximate schedule for the evening:
6:00 p.m. Call to Order/Pledge of Allegiance/Roll Call
6:10 p.m. Introduction to Technology In Action Workshop —City Manager Gillison
6:15 p.m. Recess to explore displays and booths (Bank of America Celebration
Courtyard, Lewis Family Playhouse Lobby)
7:10 p.m. Reconvene meeting; opportunity drawing is held
7:20 p.m. Comments and debrief by the City Council; public comment
8:00 p.m. Adjourn
We know that this evening will be an interesting and informative event. Please contact me if I can
answer any questions in advance of the workshop.
