The following Consent Calendar items are expected to be routine and

Member or member of the audience for discussion.

Adjourned Meeting
A. CALL TO ORDER
An adjourned meeting of the Rancho Cucamonga Public Library Foundation Board was held on
Monday, October 7, 2013, in the Tri-Communities Room, located at the City of Rancho
Cucamonga at 10500 Civic Center Drive, Rancho Cucamonga,California. The meeting was called
to order at 6:04 p.m. Present were Members Akahoshi, Amsler, Gonzalez, Leal, May, Nelson and
Soehnel.
Also present were Ray Patchett, Consultant, Robert Karatsu, Library Director, Michelle Perera,
Assistant Library Director, Renee Tobin, Library Services Manager and Vivian Garcia,
Administrative Secretary.
B. COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE PUBLIC
None were presented.
C. CONSENT CALENDAR
Cl. Approval of Library Foundation Treasurer's Report: July and August, 2013.
Member Gilfry arrived at 6:06 p.m.
MOTION: Moved by Member Amslcr to approve the Treasurer's Report for July and August,
2013, seconded by Member May, motion carried, 8-0-3 (with Davies, Sommer and White absent).
C2. Approval of Minutes: August 5, August 24, September 2 and September 21, 2013.
MOTION: Moved by Member May to approve the minutes, seconded by Member Akahoshi,
motion carried, 8-0-3 (with Davies, Sommer and White absent).

Robert Karatsu, Library Director, thanked the Members that had attended the Red, White and You
event on September 16.
Library Director Karatsu stated that Library staff will once again be starting the Staff Innovation
Fund project on behalf of the California State Library this month. The revenue which will be
received in May of 2014 will be approximately $75,000.
Library staff is applying for a grant with the Southern California Gas Company which will benefit
the STEM Education and the Back to Basics programs.
Library staff is working on the information needed by the tax accountants for the Library
Foundation taxes.
Assistant Library Director Perera stated that on Thursday, October 10,there will be a forum by the
Healthy RC at the Cultural Center which will start at 5:30 p.m.
Michelle Perera, Assistant Library Director, stated that Library Director Karatsu will be receiving
the 2013 Local Hero Award by the Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of Los Angeles in November
at a ceremony. Robert Karatsu, Library Director, while in the Peace Corps created a library in Fiji
during his service.
E. BOARD BUSINESS
E1. Discussion of Library Foundation Strategic Plan. Discussion led by President Leal.
President Leal introduced Consultant Ray Patchett.
Consultant Ray Patchett reviewed with the Board the Strategic Directors and Goals on pages 24
and 25 of the agenda.
Members discussed the goals, timing and accountable parties.
Consultant Ray Patchett will prepare and present a final "draft' to the Members for their review.
E2. Update of Library Foundation mailing roster. Discussion led by Robert Karatsu, Library
Director.
Robert Karatsu,Library Director,stated that staff would update and send to the Members the roster
of the Library Foundation Board.

communities Room at City Hall,seconded by Member Nelson,motion carried, 8-0-3 (with Davies,
Sommer and White absent). The meeting adjourned at 7:02 p.m.
