HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-10-86 - Resolutions RESOLUTION 1-10-86 ' A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE FOOTHILL FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT, COUNTY OF SAN BERNARDINO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA SUPPORTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF A STATE WIDE FIRE SERVICE TRAINING AND EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM WHEREAS, within the state of California, there are approximately 1 , 200 fire departments with an estimated 45, 000 firefighters ; and WHEREAS, within the past 10 years , California has experienced over 2 , 160 , 000 fires and property loss of over four billion dollars ; and WHEREAS, firefighters have experienced a great risk to bodily injury and life while maintaining a vital level of service to all cities, county and state jurisdictions within California ; and WHEREAS, the human body is the single most important piece of equipment or resource with which to accomplish the mission of the fire protection organization; and ' WHEREAS, no one other single factor has as much impact on firefighter ' s health and safety, and a fire department ' s service, delivery, efficiency, and effectiveness , as does training; and WHEREAS , to lessen the loss of life and property and to increase preparedness and readiness in emergency situations , the fire service recognizes the need to promote and sustain an effective state wide training program resulting in better fire protection throughout the state; and WHEREAS, the fire service in California faces additional challenges with the complex and highly volatile tasks of handling hazardous materials emergencies ; and WHEREAS, the fire service in California has a history of being highly motivated and "training" oriented and, in 1931 , initiated a "Uniform Fire Science" curriculum within the community college system, and later established a State Fire Academy; and WHEREAS, in the past, the State of California has recognized the need to establish a state wide system of training and education to improve the level of fire protection and quality ' of life for all the citizens in California because major disasters strike randomly and without regard for local boundaries or jurisdiction; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of ' Directors of the Foothill Fire Protection District do hereby support legislation to assist state, county, and local agencies providing fire protection throughout California in the funding and delivery of high quality fire and rescue training programs .
