SUBJECT: NATIONAL HISTORIC PRESERVATION MONTH ACTIVITIES FOR MAY 2012
GENERAL: The National Trust for Historic Preservation will commemorate the annual
National Preservation Month in May 2012. The idea behind Preservation Month is to celebrate the
country's diverse and irreplaceable heritage by participating in local events throughout the nation.
This year, the theme is titled, "Discover America's Hidden Gems." This theme focuses on
promoting places that have historic significance but may be unfamiliar or unknown to the general
community. National Preservation's intent is to "reach out to a growing audience of neighbors,
tourists, students, and preservationists" to make them aware of our rich heritage "by promoting the
historic places in your community and encourage newcomers to learn more about preservation
programs." Preservation IS discovery of hidden historic treasures.
The following is a list of potential activities anticipated for this year's Preservation Month. Details for
additional functions are also currently being reviewed.
