Adjourned Meetin~
An adjourned meeting of ~he City Council was held on Thursday, May 3, 1984 at
the Lions Park Co~unity Center, 9161 Base Line Road. The purpose of the
meeting was to conduct an interviev by the City Council rich the firm of John
Carl Waruecka & Associates. The ~irm has expressed an interest in handling the
design portion of the future Cultural-Civic Center. Mayor Mikels called the
meeting to order at 7:35 p.m.
Present were Councilmembers: Pamela J. Wright, Charles J. Buquet, II, Mayor
Jot D. Mikels, Richard M. Dahl, and Jeffrey Fins.
Also present were: City Manager, Lauren M, Wasgerman; Jack tam, tomunity
Development Director.
1. RECOMMENDATION BY COMMITTEE
Mayor Mikels stared thac the recommendation of John Carl Warnecke & Associates
was made by a committee consistinS of two representatives of the City Council,
two representatives of the Planning Commission, and three members of the City
Staff. The Architectural Selection Committee recommendation was unanimous that
John Carl Warnecke & Associates be designated as the principal architect for
the project. Mayor Mikels indicated that if the Council concurs with the
committee recommendation the appropriate action would be to instruct the staff
to being negotiations to complete a contrac~ subject to City Council approval
for the architectural services.
2. PRESENTATION
A presentation was given by the firm of John Carl Warnecks & Associates.
MOTION: Moved by Mayor Mikels, seconded by Councilman Dahl that the firm be
designated as the architects for the Cultural-Civic Center project and that the
staff begin negotiations for completion of a contract to be submitted to the
City Council for review. Motion carried by the following vote:
AYES: Wright, Bugnet, Mikels, Dahl
NOES: Fins
ABSENT: None
ABSTAINED: None
Councilmember King qualified his "NO" vo~e by indicating that in no way is the
vote an indication of a lack of confidence in the firm of John Carl Warnecke &
Associates. Mr. King stated that since he was not involved in the project from
its inception he did not feel that he was prepared to act on the matter this
evening.
