It's Summer in the City…Here Are Ways to Help Your Pet Chill Out
Seasonably hot weather can mean
problems for pets.Animals are prone
to heat-related conditions,just like
people,and hot,sunny days can
bring about dehydration and
overheating.Here are important
ways to help pets enjoy this fun
time of the year:
•Never leave your pet in a car
alone,even if it’s only for a few
minutes or in a shaded spot with
the windows down.
•Early signs of heat distress are drooling,
panting heavily and labored breathing. If you notice these
symptoms bring your pet into a cool environment such as an
air-conditioned room, provide cool water and ice and contact
your veterinarian. If your pet becomes unresponsive and/or
unconscious, rush the animal to a veterinarian without delay.
In transit, cool your pet slowly with a wet towel and ice.
•Snub-nosed breeds such as Bulldogs,Pugs,Boston Terriers,
Lhasa Apsos,Shih Tzus and older pets with heart or lung
diseases, are especially prone to heat-related problems.
Let them rest inside as much as possible during the summer.
•Do not let your dog ride in the back of an open vehicle, such as
a pickup truck.
•Playtime is healthiest for your pet when it is in
the evening or early morning.
•When outside,pets should always have
shade and fresh water.Bring pets into
the house at the hottest time of the day.
•Keep your pet well-groomed,but resist
the temptation to shave off all of his
hair in an effort to keep him cool as
this will increase the chance of sunburn.
Rabbits require additional precautions to
stay cool in the heat:
•Never keep rabbits in direct sun.Sixty-seven
degrees Fahrenheit is best for rabbits;
heat in the upper 80’s and beyond can lead to
fatal heat stroke.
•Freeze plastic soda bottles 3/4 full
with clean water and place each
bottle in the rabbit's home for extra
cooling (rotate throughout the day).

In 2006,the Rancho Cucamonga City Council created a vision of a place
where the many non-profit,social service groups that provide aid to our
community would be centrally located to provide resources and informa-
tion on the many services and programs that are available to families.
Transformed from the facility that was once home to the Rancho
Cucamonga Senior Center, the RC Family Resource Center provides a link
for over 30 non-profit organizations providing food,clothing,counseling
and many more social service needs. Please call (909)477-2781 for

May 29-June 7
In the haven of Truvy's beauty salon, six very
different women come together to share their
secrets and bare their souls, throwing in a
little neighborly gossip for good measure.
They weather every event in their lives
en masse with grace,determination,and
perfectly coiffed hair.When tragedy strikes,
it is in the familiar comfort of Truvy's salon
where they seek the solace and support that
carries them through.
