Chairman Barker suggested that it would be appropriate for a letter to be sent
to the Lighthouse Church, located at 9284 Base Line, in recognition of their
extensive efforts to remodel the exterior of their building.
Commissioner Tolstoy also recommended sending a letter to General Telephone
complimenting them for their landscaping effort at the new GTE Switching
facility located on the east side of Milliken, north of 5th Street.
Commissioner Melcher commented that a letter to Hix Development Corporation
would also be appropriate for the Hellman Avenue streetscape landscaping
installed with Tract 14192 and the setting created for the historic Isaac Lord
House.
It was the consensus of the Commission that the Chairman should send thank you
letters to the Lighthouse Church, GTE, and Hix Development Corporation.
Commissioner Melcher suggested that the Commission consider establishing new
eligibility criteria for the Awards for Design Excellence Program that would
require the project to have been processed through the City's review
process. He used schools as an example of projects which are exempt from the
City's review process.
It was the consensus of the Commission that Commissioner Melcher's suggestion
be followed in the future.
