HomeMy WebLinkAbout2020/02/19 - Minutes - SpecialFebruary 19, 2020 CITY OF RANCHO CUCAMONGA CITY COUNCIL AND FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT SPECIAL MEETING WORKSHOP MINUTES The City Council and Rancho Cucamonga Fire Protection District held a special meeting workshop on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 in the Tri-Communities Conference Room, 10500 Civic Center Drive, Rancho Cucamonga, California. Mayor L. Dennis Michael called the meetings to order at 3:00 p.m. Present were Council Members: Ryan A. Hutchison, Kristine D. Scott, Sam Spagnolo, Mayor Pro Tern Lynne Kennedy and Mayor L. Dennis Michael. Also present were: John Gillison, City Manager; Matt Burris, Deputy City Manager/Community Development; Jason Welday, Director of Engineering Services/City Engineer, and Linda A. Troyan, City Clerk Services Director. Flavio Nunez, Management Analyst II, Economic Development, led the Pledge of Allegiance. No public communications were made. Review of Transit Rail Alternatives and Establishment of Related City Policy. City Manager Gillison introduced the item Deputy City Manager Burris and Jason Welday, Director of Engineering Services/City Engineer via Power Point reviewed rail options in the West Valley region. Staff recommended that the City Council adopt a formal position regarding the future of rail transit in the area. City Staff recommended that the City Council support the following: Short-term: Support Gold Link Connection to ONT via Rancho Cucamonga Metrolink Station. Long-term: Support connecting ONT to the wider Metrolink network via high quality transit to provide better regional connectivity. Dr. Raymond W. Wolfe, Executive Director, San Bernardino County Transportation Authority, (SBCTA) outlined Metrolink enhancements and Ontario rail access alternatives via Power Point presentation. He also provided a flyer on Zemu, America's first self -containing ZERO EMISSION MULTIPLE UNIT (ZEMU) slated for the future Arrow service in San Bernardino County. In follow up to SBCTA's support of transit alternatives to and from Ontario Airport, Council supported changing Staff's recommendation to: Support enhanced Metrolink service to Ontario International Airport via the Rancho Cucamonga Metrolink station. Support connecting Ontario International Airport to the wider Metrolink network via high quality transit to provide better regional connectivity. Support connecting Ontario International Airport to the wider Metrolink network via high quality transit to provide better regional connectivity.
