CITY OF RANCHO CUCAMONGA
CITY COUNCIL AND FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES
The City of Rancho Cucamonga City Council held a special meeting on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, in Paul A.
Biane Library,Second Story Exhibit Space, 12505 Cultural Center Drive, Rancho Cucamonga, California. Mayor
L. Dennis Michael called the meeting to order at 8:50 a.m.
Present were Councilmembers Ryan Hutchison, Kristine Scott, Mayor Pro Tern Lynne Kennedy, and Mayor L.
Dennis Michael. Absent: Councilmember Sam Spagnolo.
Also present were: John Gillison, City Manager; Elisa Cox, Deputy City Manager/Civic and Cultural Services;
Lori Sassoon, Deputy City Manager/Administrative Services; Matt Burris, Deputy City Manager/Community and
Economic Development; and Linda A. Troyan, City Clerk Services Director.
B. PUBLIC COMMUNICATIONS
No public communications.
C. ITEMS OF DISCUSSION
C1. Annual City Council Review and Development of New Goals, Team Building Workshop and Related
Legislative Matters. (FIRE/CITY COUNCIL)
City Council, along with City Manager Gillison and staff, reviewed City Council's Mission, Vision and Values
statements; Strengths Deployment Inventory(SDI)Team communication including strengths,weaknesses and
team and individual dynamics; prior City Council Team Building agreements; City and Council District interests;
review and status of 2021 Goals, and discussion of 2022 Goals and 2022 legislative matters (Huang Housing
Initiative).
The meeting recessed at 10:33 a.m.;reconvened at 10:50 a.m. Present were Councilmembers Ryan Hutchison,
Kristine Scott, Mayor Pro Tern Lynne Kennedy, and Mayor L. Dennis Michael. Absent: Councilmember Sam
Spagnolo.
Council discussion continued. Consensus to revisit next year whether to change "the" to "our" in their Mission
Statement and add "Relentless" at the beginning of City Council Core Values #7. Statement to be "Relentless
Continuous Improvement."
The meeting recessed at 11:37 a.m. for lunch; reconvened at 1:30 p.m. Present were Councilmembers Ryan
Hutchison, Kristine Scott, Mayor Pro Tern Lynne Kennedy, and Mayor L. Dennis Michael. Absent:
Councilmember Sam Spagnolo.
Council discussion continued. Consensus for staff to return with a timeline for current and upcoming
goals/projects scheduled within the next two years and provide information on historic agricultural preservation
(grapes).
After reviewing and discussing the Huang Housing Initiative, Council agreed to revisit and consider a position if
the initiative qualifies for the ballot.
D. ADJOURNMENT
Mayor Michael adjourned the meeting at 4:30 p.m.
