CALL TO ORDER The City of Rancho Cucamonga Public Art Committee held a regular meeting on Tuesday,July 6,2021 by teleconference due to the Governor's Executive Orders,the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health requirements,and to ensure the health and safety of Rancho Cucamonga residents by limiting contact that could spread the COVID-19 virus.Chair Leslie Matamoros called the meeting to order at 5:48 p.m. Present: Committee Members Bryan Dopp,Jaymie Leslie,John Machado,Leslie Matamoros,and Paula Pachon Absent:None Also present were Erika Lewis-Huntley,Management Analyst III;Elisa Cox,Deputy City Manager-Civic and Cultural Services;Anne McIntosh,Planning Director;Monica Mahoney,Consultant,Founding Director-Gemini Projects;Annette Johnson,Founding Director-AM Johnson Arts Consulting;Debra Alleyne,Public Art and Historic Preservation Management Analyst-City of Indio;Denise Turner,President-Color Turners;Jim Rawitsch, Executive Director- The Sam and Alfreda Maloof Foundation for Arts&Crafts;Letitia Fernandez Ivins, Senior Manager-Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority(LA Metro Arts&Design Division);Mayen Alcantara, Senior Manager-Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority(LA Metro Arts&Design Division);Misty Burruel,Interim Dean-Chaffey College Visual and Performing Arts;Rebecca Trawick,Director- Chaffey College Wignall Museum of Contemporary Art;and Susan Sluka Kelly,Executive Director-Rancho Cucamonga Community&Arts Foundation. B. PUBLIC COMMUNICATIONS No public communications were made. C. COMMITTEE BUSINESS Cl. Consideration to approve the minutes of January 5,2021 and April 6,2021. MOTION:Moved by John Machado,seconded by Bryan Dopp,to approve meeting minutes of January 5, 2021 and April 6,2021.Motion carried unanimously, 5-0 for January 5,2021 Minutes(AYES:Dopp,Leslie, Machado,Matamoros,and Pachon.NOES:None;ABSTAIN:None).Motion carried,4-0 for April 6,2021 Minutes(AYES:Dopp,Leslie,Machado,and Matamoros.NOES:None;ABSTAIN:Pachon due to absence). C2.Update on the status of the Public Art Fund. Erika Lewis-Huntley,Management Analyst III,provided an update on the status of the Public Art Fund balance; total$583,392.43. MOTION:N/A C3.Update on the Public Art donation. Erika Lewis-Huntley,Management Analyst III,provided an update on the public art donation.The City is currently in the feasibility and site selection process. Staff is working with the artist to develop a cost estimate for repair and restoration of the art piece. MOTION:N/A C4.Discussion of the Public Art Strategic Plan. Public Art Committee Member John Machado conducted a presentation on the Creative Economy and strategies to help build awareness of the community's cultural assets and how to equitably strengthen,value,and utilize them.Monica Mahoney,Founding Director of Gemini Projects and consultant for the Public Art and Placemaking Strategic Plan,presented a snapshot of the emerging survey data and facilitated a discussion on the creative economy and expert recommendations to inform the strategic plan for best practices in arts integration in the city. Strategies included developing equitable policies and programs that bolster the economic activity generated by creative goods and services,as well as strategies to establish and further strengthen partnerships between the creative industries,arts and culture nonprofits,and government sectors.
