HomeMy WebLinkAbout78-23 - Resolutions RESOLUTION NO. 78-23 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO CUCAMONGA, COUNTY OF SAN BERNARDINO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA, ENDORSING AND SUPPORTING THE CREATION AND DESIGNATION OF THE SHEEP MOUNTAIN WILDERNESS AREA ON THE ANGELES AND SAN BERNARDINO NATIONAL FORESTS. WHEREAS, the Sheep Mountain Region area contains some of the most rugged and scenic terrain in Southern California; and WHEREAS, said area is the home for a healthyremnant band of Nelson bighorn sheep; and WHEREAS, said area has clear water streams with a self-sustaining native fish population; and WHEREAS, consideration is now being given by the United States Forest Service and others for the creation of such a wilderness area; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO CUCAMONGA AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1: The City Council does hereby endorse and support the creation of such a wilderness area with boundaries to be established which would include essentially the currently remaining range of the East Fork Herd of bighorn sheep. SECTION 2: The City Council hereby urges that the Boundaries for said wilderness area specifically include the Narrows down to Swan Rock, Allison Gulch, lower Coldwater Canyon, Pine Mountain Ridge and the northeast face of Mt. Baden-Powell on the Angeles Forest and also the Dawson Peak north slope Devils Backbone region on the San Bernardino Forest. SECTION 3: The City Council hereby directs that copies of this Resolution be forwarded to Senator S. I. Hayakawa, Congressman Jim Lloyd, State Senator Ruben Ayala, Assemblyman Bill McVittie, Assemblyman Terry Goggin, Supervisor Joe Kamansky, and the Chief, Forest Service, United States Department of Agriculture. SECTION 4: The City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this Resolution and the same shall thereupon take effect and be in force. PASSED, APPROVED, and ADOPTED this 17th day of May, 1978. ATTEST:
