A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO
CUCAMONGA~ CALIFORNIA, REQUIRING THE REGISTRATION AND
LICENSING OF BICYCLES AND MOTORIZED BICYCLES.
The City Council of the City of Rancho Cucamonga, California,
hereby resolves as follows:
SECTION 1: The term "bicycle" as used in this resolution
includes "motorized bicycle". All words and phrases used in this
resol~jtion which are defined or which are used in the Vehicle Code of
the State of California shall have the same definition or meaning as
in the Vehicle Code.
SECTION 2 Any bicycle which is operated bv a reside~t of
the City on any street, road, highway, or other public place within
the City must be licensed in accordance with the provisions of Division
16.7 (commencing with Section 31000) of the Vehicle Code of the State
of California.
SECTION 3: All of the provisions of Division 16.7 of the
Vehicle Code of the State of California, which are not inconsistent with
the provisions of this resolution, are hereby adopted b~, reference
as though fully set forth herein.
SECTION 4: The owner of any bicycle required to be licensed
by this resolution shall cause said bicycle to be licensed by the
ianer of:
(a) January 31, 1980;
(b) Twenty (20) days after said bicycle is purchased
in the City by a resident of the City; or
(c) Twenty (20) days after said bicycle is first brought
into the City by a resident of the City.
SECTION 5: Any bicycle which has been licensed by 3nother
jurisdiction in California, and which bears license indica conforming
to that required by Division 16.7 of the Vehicle Code shall be registered
in the City by the later of:
(a) January 31, 1980; or
(b) Twnery (20) days after said bicycle is brought into
the City by a resident of the City.
SECTION 6: Cicycle licensing records need include only the
information required by Government Code Section 39005. All bicycle
licensing records shall be maintained by the Chief of Police or his
designated subordinants.
SECTION 7: The registration of bicycles and the issuance of
license indicia may be done by the Chief of Police or his designated
subordinants, any City employee designated by the City Manager and any
bicycle retailer or bicycle dealer authorized by the City Manager.
Recordation of transfer and issuance of duplicate licenses and registration
forms shall be done by the City Manager or his designated subordinants.
SECTION 8: The fees required to be paid for new bicycle
license and registration certificate, transfer of registration certificate,
replacement of a bicycle license or registration certificate, or for
bicycle license renewal shall be the maximum fees allowed by Division
16.7 of the Vehicle Code.
SECTION 9: All fees collected by the Chief of Police or his
designated subordinants, or by other employees of the City shall be
retained by the City and may be used for the support of this resolution
or to improve bicycle safety programs or to establish bicycle facilities,
including bicycle paths and lanes within the City.
SECTION 10: All fees collected by a bicycle retailer or by a
bicycle dealer shall be remitted to City by said retailer or dealer.
SECTION 11: Bicycle license records with respect to each
license issued by a bicycle retailer or dealer, or by any employee of
the City, shall be delivered to the City within ten days following
license issuance. Registration forms shall be remitted at the same time
license fees are delivered to the City.
SECTION 12: Any person who violates any provision of this
resolution shall be fined the sum of Five Dollars ($5.00).
