HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-229 - Resolutions RESOLUTION NO. 02-229 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CALIFORNIA, ENDORSING THE FREEDOM'S FLAME PROJECT AND THE CITY'S OFFER TO BE CONSIDERED AS THE HOST CITY FOR THE WEST COAST MEMORIAL WHEREAS, in response to the devastating attacks of September 11, 2001, the American people have become united in their desire to commemorate those who died in the attacks; and WHEREAS, the Freedom's Flame Foundation is a nonprofit, charitable organization created for the purpose of establishing two memorials recognizing the brave fire fighters, police, emergency personnel and civilians who tragically lost their lives on September 11; and WHEREAS, the Freedom's Flame Foundation will be financed by private donations and not by public monies; and WHEREAS, there will be two monuments erected. One will reside on the West Coast and one will be presented to New York City on behalf of the people of the United States; and WHEREAS, Freedom's Flame is a nationwide project that thousands of people have endorsed by both monetary contributions and emotional support; and WHEREAS, the City of Rancho Cucamonga, California is a very progressive community and supportive of art in public places. Freedom's Flame will be a beautiful piece of art that will attract visitors from around the globe; and WHEREAS, the City of Rancho Cucamonga is ideally situated with excellent public access. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO CUCAMONGA HEREBY RESOLVES to endorse the project and offers to be the host city for the West Coast memorial and will consider sites such as its Central Park.
