June 6, 1985
Regular Meeting
Meeting was called to order by Chairman Arner at 7:00 p.m. Call to 0rder
Pledge of Allegiance was led by Chairman Arner. Pledge of Allegiance
Present were CoimmissioDers, Arner, Banks, Billings, Cooper, Roll Call
Schaff, Schmidt, and Strane.
Minutes of May 2, 1985, Requla. r Meeting were reviewed. Minutes 5/2/85
Motion: Moved by Billings, seconded by Banks, that minutes of
May 2, 198.~, regular meetinq, be approved as posted. Motion
carried 7-0.
ANNOUNC FMENTS
Commissioner Strane reported that Rancbo Days, held on Saturday,
May 18, 1985, at the Rains' House, was a very successful event. Rancho Days
Commissioner Banks announced that on ~ondaV, June 24, 1985, at
7:00 p.m., the Etiwanda Historical Society will be holding their Etiwanda Historic
annual meetinq at the Buddhist Temple. Society Meeting
Temporary fence at the Chaffey Garcia House has been installed,
the footings have been duo and are ready for concrete to be Charley Garcia House
poured. Work is progressing with the help of the California Fence ~ Footings
Youth Authority.
Commissioner Banks reported that a conference on Detail Sept. Conference
Preservation will be held on September 4,5 & 6, 1985, in San on Detail
Francisco.
Staff reported that at the June 5, 1985, City Council meeting
Commissioners Strane, Billings and Cooper received their five Five Year Pins
year pins.
Staff reported that the City has not received a copy of the Charley Garcia House
Certificate of I~surance for the Chaffey Garcia House. Insurance
Commissioner Banks to forward a copy to staff.
Staff reported that Commissioners Cooper, Billings, and Schaff
have been re-appointed to a four year term to expire July, 1989. Commission

Commissioner Strane reported on the China Town House. She has
attended a meeting and learned that the area south of San China Town House
Bernardino Road including the China Town Rouse is expected to be
developed. At this time, the Cucamonqa China Town Site is a
Point of Interest (Ordinance 93). Commissioner Strane to
contact property owner re~arding upgrading of site to City
Historic Landmark.

Historic Preservation
June 6, 1985
Motion: Moved by Strane, seconded by Billings, that a Public
Hearing be set for August 1 , 1985, to investigate the China Town House
feasibility of recommending to Council that a City Historic
Landmark designation be placed on the 'China Town House'.
Motion carried 7-0.
Commissioner ~qtrane announced that the Thomas Winery and
surrounding property has been sold for redevelopment, the design
will incorporate the Winery theme, small businesses will be Thomas Winery
developed. A plaque has been installed at the Thomas Winery in
recognition of the Tapia Adobe Site.
Commissioners reported on the Conference they attended in May
31, 1985, in Claremont. Discussion was held on the information Claremont Conference
and contacts gathered at the Conference.
Commissioners requested that they receive agen~as and additional
information of other Commission and City Council meetings. Request of additional
Agendas from
Commission requested that Cynthia Solie from the City of Ontario Com/niss]ons
be asked to give the Commission a presentation of the survey
done in Ontario. Commissioner Arner to contact Ms. Solie to set Cynthia Solie
a date for her presentation. Presentation
Commissioner Banks informed the Commission that she has written
to sign companys for quotes on Historical Sign Markers. More Sign Company Contacted
information at a later date.
Commissioners welcomed Commissioner .qchmidt, appointed to the
Commission at the May 1, 1985, City Council }ieeting. Welcomed Commissioner

Subject: Historic Preservation Commission Terms
The terms for Historic Preservation Commissioners Billings, Cooper, and Schaff
expire July, 1985.
At the May 2 Commission meeting, the above named Commissioners expressed their
desire to be appointed to another term of office.
Should the Council approve these re-appointments, it would be appropriate that
they do so at their June 19 meeting with appointment commencing July 1, 1985,
and ending July 1, 1989.
If you need additional information, please let me know.

Subject: Historic Preservation Commission - 5 Year Pins
Commissioners Billings, Cooper, and Strane are eligible for their 5 Year pins.
Commissioner Billings has been a Commission since November 13, 1979 and has
attended 45 meetings.
Commissioner Cooper has been a Commissioner since March 13, 1979 and has
attended 51 meetings.
Commissioner Strane has been a Commissioner since June 12, 1979 and has
attended 61 meetings.
The Commissioners are able to attend the June 5, 1985 City Council meeting to
accept their pins.
