HomeMy WebLinkAbout91-123 - Resolutions RESOLUTION NO. 91-123 A RESOLUi~ON OF THE CITY OOUN~ OF THE CITY OF RANCHO ~, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING HISTORIC IANEMARK DESIGNATION 91-01, THEREBY DESIGNATING THE MAGIC LAMP RESTAURANT (FO~.RLY LUCY AND JOHN'S CAFE), ~ AT 8189 FOOTHILL BOULEVARD, AS A HIS~0RIC ~ ~, Anthony Vernola ham filed an application for Tmndmark Designation 91-01, as described in the title of this Resolution. Hereinafter in this Resolution, the subject Landmark Designation is referred to as the "application". WHEREAS, on March 7 and continued to April 4, 1991, the Historic Preservation C~mL,~ssion of the City of Rancho Cucamonga conducted duly noticed public hearings on the application and, following the conclusion of said public hearings, adopted Resolution No. 91-02, thereby recc~Lu~ndir~ to this City Council that said application be approved. WHEREAS, on May 15, 1991, the City Council of the City of Rancho Cucamonga conducted a meeting on the application and concluded said meeting on that date. WHEREAS, all legal prerequisites prior to the adoption of this resolution have occurred. NOW THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Rancho Cucamonga does hereby find, determine, and resolve as follows: SECTION 1: The application applies to property located at Assessor Parcel Numbers 207-113-12 through 18. S~L"ITON 2: For close to 50 years, a restaurant has operated on this site representing the importance of Route 66 related bus~. Since its beginnings as a Streamline Moderne-styled cafe in th~ early 1940s, and its conversion to a thematic showpiece in 1956, a unique sense of c~,mercial enterprise has characterized this site. Tb~ proposed landmark meets the following criteria established in Cha~ 2.24.090 of the Rancho Cucamonga Municipal Code: A. Historical and Cultural significance: 1. The proposed Landmark is particularly representative of an historical period and way of life. B. Historic Architectural and Engineering Significance: 1. The construction materials or engineering methods used in the proposed Landmark are unusual and uniquely effective. Resolution No. 91-123 Page 2 C. Neighborhood and Geographic Setting: 1. The proposed ~andmark materially benefits the historic character of the neighborhood. 2. The proposed Landmark, in its location, represents an est~_blished and familiar visual feature of the neighborhood, c~L..~inity and City (Ord. 70 S9, 1979). SECTION 3: Designation of a Landmark is exempt from C~ (Article 19, Section 15308). S~CTION 4: Based on the substantial evidence received and reviewed by this Council and based on the findings set forth above, BE IT FURPHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Rancho Cucamonga approves the designation of the Magic Lamp Restaurant (formerly Lucy and John's Cafe) as a Historic Landmark.
