CALL TO ORDER The Rancho Cucamonga City Council held a special workshop on Wednesday, March 2, 2005, in the Upper Level Training Room of the Civic Center located at 10500 Civic Center Drive, Rancho Cucamonga, California. The meeting was called to order at 3:30 p.m. by Mayor William J. Alexander Present were Councilmembers: L. Dennis Michael, Sam Spagnolo, Diane Williams and Mayor William J. Alexander. Aisc present were: Jack Lam, City Manager; Pamela Easter, Deputy City Manager; Kimberly Thomas, Management Analyst III; Michelle Dawson, Management Analyst II1: Linda Daniels, Redevelopment Director; Mike Nelson, Sr. RDA Analyst; Jan Reynolds, RDA Analyst; Flavio Nunez, RDA Analyst; Lynda Thompson, Assistant RDA Analyst; Brad Buller, City Planner; Francie Palmer, Marketing Manager; and Captain Pete Ortiz, Rancho Cucamonga Police Department. Other attendees included the Hill & Knowlton team: Krista Hildebrand, Eric Moses, and Erica Amestoy. Additional attendees included members of the community at large: Norm Mackenzie (Rancho Chamber), Rich Fletcher (business owner), Peggy Cartwright (Chaffey College), Dr, John Husing (Regional Economist), Mike Wethington (General Manager, Victoria Gardens), Glenn Miller (Marketing Manager, Victoria Gardens), David Neault (commercial broker), Len Santoro (commercial broker), Dan Blackman (business representative), and Shelley Cirrito (Cucamonga Valley Water District). Absent was Councilmember: Rex Gutierrez Il B. PUBLIC COMMUNICATIONS I No communication was made from the public. [ C. ITEM(S) OFBUSINESS O1. TRAINING ON ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY Redevelopment Agency Director, Linda Daniels welcomed the attendees and provided a brief overview of the purpose for the meeting. Krista Hildebrand, from the public relations firm of Hill & Knowlton, opened the workshop with a session overview and presented the attendees with the City's key message strategy (see attached), as well as suggestions on how to communicate the key messages to a variety of target audiences (media, potential business investors; real estate professionals, etc.) She discussed the process of defining and applying effective messaging, and reviewed Rancho Cucamonga's key messages with the attendees. Upon conclusion of the presentation, Ms. Hildebrand assembled the attendees into three breakout groups to provide them with an opportunity to practice delivering key messages and supporting information to a hypothetical audience (role playing). Each of the group's participants were asked questions about Rancho Cucamonga, and participants responded by providing information based on the key messages and proof points. After each individual responded to his/her question, the group critiqued the process. At the conclusion of the breakout sessions, the groups were assembled for a final opportunity to answer some "rapid-fire" questions. After which, Ms. Hildebrand concluded the session.
