It has become apparent that a much larger scale and more cost efficient program is needed since the City of Rancho Cucamonga now boasts a total of 51 designated Historic Landmarks and 22 Points of Interest The program update that we are submitting for your consideration is a bronze plaque measuring approximately 11 inches by 7 inches which will be attached to a Victorian Style mailbox An illustration of the plaque is shown in Exhibit "B "The plaque will be headed by the City of Rancho Cucamonga's crest (grape logo) and the text will read City of Rancho Cucamonga Historic Point of InteresUHistoncal Landmark -Year built- -Actual Historical Name- The mailbox to which the plaque is bwlt into is in the Victorian Style, and is constructed of bronze colored cast aluminum The dimensions of the mailbox are as follows 44 niches tall, from base to top, 15'/z inches wide, and 10'/~ niches deep A photograph of the type of mailbox to be used is attached as Exhibit "C " In 1999 the City allocated $20,000 00 for the current historical sign program This • allotment was to expand the ability to identify not dust certain historic cites and points of interest but to make the option of having a plaque a reality for all owners of historic sites The update will make this plan a reality, and make it possible to fully implement the program This program will remain voluntary for the property owner and may be used with ITEM A HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION HISTORIC SIGN PROGRAM June 14, 2000 Page 2 or without a mailbox With the support of the Historic Preservation Commission staff will initiate the manufacturing of the plaques and mailboxes. The installation can be performed by the City or one or more community service groups may wish to do the installation as a community service project. RECOMMENDATION• Staff recommends the Historic Preservation recommend approval of the update of the Historic Landmark and Point of Interest Plaque Program to the City Council by minute action Respectfully submitted, Brad Buller City Planner BB SB\Is Attachments Exhibit "A" - Photograph of Plaque on Boulder Exhibit "B" - Illustration of New Plaque Exhibit "C"- Photograph of New Mailbox • • • ~~ ~~ EXHIBIT A ~3 CITY OF RANCHO CUCAMONGA HISTORIC POINT OF ~~INTREST C. 1914 PALMER RANCH Installed v:~Bov Scouts of Ameri • EXHIBIT C ~~
