Staff Report
DATE July 9, 2008
TO: Chairman and Members of the Historic Preservation Commission
FROM: James R. Troyer, AICP, Planning Director
BY: Lois Schrader, Planning Commission Secretary
SUBJECT: CONSIDERATION OF APPOINTMENT TO THE GENERAL PLAN ADVISORY
COMMITTEE
BACKGROUND: The City is currently participating in the preparation of the General Plan
Update. Part of that Update involves the formation of various committees that participate in
information gathering, community outreach, or act on an advisory basis. The General Plan
• Advisory Committee (GPAC) will meet throughout the course of the update process to discuss
I and resolve any issues of public process and outreach and act as a sounding board for the
values, visions, choices and strategic direction that arises from the outreach process. This
Committee is more focused on process rather than policy. Tlie Committee discussions will
ultimately assist the Council in Council's review, comment, consideration and the formation
policy that subsequently will be foundational to the direction of the General Plan.
Typically, members of a General Plan Advisory Committee are those who are already actively
involved in the Community and are informed about community interests and therefore seek to
collaborate towards the goal of a meaningful General Plan. This Committee will be comprised
of selected members of City boards and commissions as well as members from all sectors of
the community including the Chamber of Commerce, the school districts, the Etiwanda
Historical Society, and the Alta Loma Riding Club, to name a few.
RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that one member of the Historic Preservation
Commission to be selected to serve on the GPAC.
Respectfully submitted,
