Troyer, AICP, Planning Director BY: Lois J. Schrader, Planning Commission Secretary SUBJECT: UPDATE REPORT ON THE STATUS OF HISTORIC LANDMARK APPLICATIONS FOR THE CUCAMONGA GAS STATION AND THE BIANE PROPERTY (PADRE VINEYARD COMPANY) Staff recently received two applications for Landmark Designation from Ed Dietl of the Historic Preservation Association of Rancho Cucamonga. The first applies to the historic Cucamonga Gas Station located on Foothill Boulevard, west of Archibald Avenue. The second application applies to the Biane property, formerly known as the Padre Vineyard Company, located on the south side of 8th Street, west of Hermosa Avenue. Staff has been in contact with the owners of both properties. Lamar Advertising, owners of the Cucamonga Gas Station property, have indicated in a, letter that they do not wish to consent to the designation of the property at this time. The owner of the Biane property has indicated by phone that a previous application was filed for Landmark Designation a number of years ago and that the application was "tabled" by the Council at the owner's request. Staff has been informed that the application is still in abeyance and the owner's request is still iri force. RECOMMENDATION: Staff is requesting time to review the applications and determine their validity considering the respective property owners' wishes. Staff will update the Commission as new information is received. Respectfully submitted, ~~ James R.
