Mayor and Members of the City Council Jack Lain, AICP, City Manager FROM_: Rick Gomez, Commumty Development Dizector Kevin McArdle, Commumty Services Dizector BY: Karen McGuize-Emety, Senior Park Planner Paula Pachon, Management Analyst II DATE: November 17, 1999 SUBJECT: PARK AND RECREATION FACILITIES UPDATE BACKGROUND ~ accordance with the City Council's request to become more informed of park and recreation facility issues, programs, projects and events, this report is provided to highlight pertinent issues, projects and programs occurring in both the Commumty Services Depa~auent and the Park Design/Development and Maintenance Sections of Engineering. A. PARKS AND FACILITIES UPDATE Central Park: · Task Force meetings were held on October 19a'and November 16m. Items of discussion included updates on the envizonmental review. Windrows Park · Removal of the play equipment began the week of October 254 and it is anticipated that the work will be completed by late November. Chuzch Street Park: · Removal and replacement of the play equipment for ADA will follow the completion of Winckows Park. It is anticipated that this work will commence in early December. CITY COUNCIL PARK AND RECREATION FACILITIES UPDATE November 17, 1999 · The Church Street Park Lighting Project plans are currenfiy being advertised for construction bids. The pre-bid job walk through took place on November 8m, the bid opening date was on November 10m. Staff anticipates to award the contract on November 17~. E!lena Park: · Landscape Structures will be replacing the playground resilient material located in the tot lot Golden Oak Park: · Construction of the 5-acre park, located on 6~h Street, west of Archibald, has begun and is well under way. The anticipated completion date for the park is early 2000. Lions West Conllnunlty Center: · Carpetrag material has been ordered for the Filippi Room and it is antidpated that it will be delivered and installed by the first of December. Heritage Park: · Staff is in the process of reviewing conceptual plans prepared by Architerra Design Group for the tot lot renovation design project. · Y2K upgrades are being installed on the Calsense systems at the park. ~ ' o unity Park: edHRIC mm ·A meeting was held to discuss the new Commtmity Services Depamnent storage building which will be located at the pa/:k. ·Y2K upgrades are being installed on the Calsense systems at the park. Etiwanda Creek Community Park: · The irrigation lines were located in preparation for the Pooch Park fence instMhfon. Lot G Facility: · Both the roller hockey rinks on the concrete surface were re-sniped due to fading. B. COMMUNITY SERVICES UPDATE Seniors: · The Senior Citizen Halloween Spooktacular was held at the Senior Center on October 28~h, at 10:00 a.m.. Seniors were invited to come in costume. There were prizes and games for the mature ghosts and goblins. The Gypsy Folk Ensemble performed an authentic Halloween -2-
