STAFF REPORT V
• PLANNING DEPARTMENT
CRANCHO
Date: May 27, 2009 UCAMONGA
To: Chairman and Members of the Historic Preservation Commission
From: James R. Troyer, AICP, Planning Director
By: Mayuko Nakajima, Assistant Planner
Subject: PRESENTATION RECOGNIZING OWNERS OF HISTORIC PROPERTIES AND
SELECTION OF HISTORIC PRESERVATION AWARDS
BACKGROUND: In recognition of the National Trust for Historic Preservation's annual
"Preservation Month" celebration in May, our final event for Preservation Month is a presentation
recognizing all historic property owners and the "Historic Preservation Awards."
GENERAL: A "Certificate of Acknowledgement"" will be presented to each historic property owner in
recognition of their efforts in saving a piece of history by maintaining their historic property.
The Historic Preservation Awards gives an opportunity for landmark owners to be recognized for
their special efforts. The categories for the Historic Preservation Awards are:
•
• "In Recognition of Outstanding Restoration and Preservation of a Residential Building"
• "Most Creative Adaptive Reuse"
• "Most Peculiar Landmark"
These categories were presented to members of the historical societies and were asked to
comment on potential nominees. Nominees were evaluated by staff and presented to the Historic
Preservation Commission with photos. The Commission is the final judge for the awards.
Staff will present a Powerpoint photo presentation during the announcements of the Certificates and
Awards.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the Historic Preservation Commission present
Certificates to all historic property owners and announce the winners of the three Historic
Preservation Awards.
Respectfully submittteed,
James . Troyer, AICP
Planning Director
