Subject: RE: Metrolink Event
Dear Foundation Members —
Every year, firefighters from Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, San Bernardino, and Riverside Counties
partner with ABC7 in the "Spark of Love" Toy Drive. As you well know, citizens drop off toys at their
local fire station, and the fire department then makes sure that toys get to needy children in the
community.
Every year, thousands of children in the City of Rancho Cucamonga benefit from this program. In
recent years, for numerous reasons, we have seen need rise while the donations have fallen off. I
Metrolink has been a partner with the Spark of Love Toy Program for years. Every year, they decorate
one of their trains with lights, music, and a host of Christmas characters, and they make scheduled i
stops in the train stations they serve. In Rancho, this has always been a huge event for the community.
We routinely have upwards of 500 people show up for this event. When it is advertised, we ask that I
every one bring one unwrapped gift for the Spark of Love Toy Drive. This influx of toys to the
program is crucial to meet the needs of our community's underprivileged.
This year, for the first time, Metrolink has had to attach a cost to their event. If a city wishes for the
train to make the one-hour stop at their respective Metrolink Station, Metrolink is requiring $2,000 to
be able to afford the resources to make that stop happen. We do not want to see this great
opportunity for our community to disappear.
That is why we are asking for your help in supporting this very worthwhile cause. If the Foundation
could contribute towards the expense of having Metrolink make a stop in Rancho Cucamonga, it would
be more than just appreciated — it would be instrumental in seeing hundreds of children's faces light up
on Christmas morning.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact myself or Kelley Donaldson at (909) 773-
2639.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
