Please turn off all cellular phones and pagers while the meeting is in session. • Copies of the Planning Commission agendas and minutes can be found at http://www.CitvofRC.us • CITY OF RANCHO CUCAMONGA HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION MINUTES Regular Meeting August 8, 2012 Chairman Munoz called the Regular Meeting of the City of Rancho Cucamonga Historic Preservation Commission to order at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held in the Council Chambers at Rancho Cucamonga Civic Center, 10500 Civic Center Drive, Rancho Cucamonga, California. Chairman Howdyshell then led in the pledge of allegiance. ROLL CALL COMMISSIONERS: PRESENT: Richard Fletcher, Frances Howdyshell, Francisco Oaxaca, Ray Wimberly ABSENT: Lou Munoz STAFF PRESENT: Jeff Bloom, Interim Planning Director; Candyce Burnett, Senior Planner; Steven Flower, Assistant City Attorney; Dan James, Senior Civil Engineer; Mayuko Nakajima, Assistant Planner; Jennifer Nakamura, Associate Planner; Lois Schrader, Planning Commission Secretary; Mike Smith, Associate Planner • ANNOUNCEMENTS None APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion: Moved by Fletcher, seconded by Oaxaca, carried 4-0-1 (Munoz absent), to approve the minutes of July 25, 2012. * * • * * DIRECTOR'S REPORTS A. UPDATE ON THE CHINATOWN HOUSE LOCATED AT 9591 SAN BERNARDINO ROAD Mayuko Nakajima presented the staff report. She said staff will know the actual scope of work from the consultant in a few weeks. She said once the property is red tagged, there will be a 90 day response period which could be extended if requested by the Building Official. In response to Vice Chairman Fletcher, Ms. Nakajima said her last contact with the CVWD indicated a consultant has been contracted. PUBLIC COMMENTS • Ed Dietl of HPARC thanked Ms. Burnett, Ms. Nakajima and Mr. Bloom and staff for their efforts with L respect to the China Town House. He reported that it appears someone has broken into the building again and the second floor has collapsed. He asked that the building be razed gently in hopes of a better salvage effort. Luana Hernandez asked that the obstruction posts at the Bank of the West building be looked into for safety reasons and/or emergency response. Gwynn Frost asked if the same type of documentation would be performed for all historic structures in this condition. • COMMISSION BUSINES/COMMENTS Candyce Burnett, Sr. Planner reported that the documentation would vary from case to case. Commissioner Wimberly thanked Mr. Dietl for his part in the recent newspaper article about the China Town House. Chairman Howdyshell thanked Mr. Dietl for drawing added attention to Route 66 in the article. Jeff Bloom, Interim Planning Director, said staff would look into the barrier/posts at the Bank of the West site and report back to the Commission.
