CALL TO ORDER A special meeting of the City Council of the City of Rancho Cucamonga met on Monday, January 21, 1991 in the Tapia Room of the Civic Center, located at 10500 Civic Center Drive, Rancho Cucamonga, California. The meeting was called to order at 9:30 a.m. by Mayor Dennis L. Stout. Present were Councilmembers: William J. Alexander, Charles J. Buquet II, Diane Willjams, Pamela J. Wright, and Mayor Dennis L. Stout. Also present were: Jack Lam, City Manager; Rick Gomez, Community Development Director; Brad Buller, City Planner; and Debra J. Adams, City Clerk. , , , , , , B. ITEM OF DISCUSSION B1. CONSIDERATION OF RECOMMENDING COMMISSION APPOINTMENTS FOR THE PLANNING COMMISSION (0701-01 APPOINT PC) Mayor Stout stated that at the last City Council meeting held on January 16, 1991, the entire Council concurred that all applicants for the three positions of Planning Commissioner would be interviewed by the full Council. Before the interview process began, the Council concurred that each applicant would be allowed the opportunity to give a statement about themselves and that subsequent structured questions would be asked of each applicant which had been distributed to each Councilmember for their reference. The City Council interviewed the following applicants: Larry McNiel J. Michael Lee John Melcher Peter Tolstoy Sharon Baer Bob Dutton City Council Minutes' January 21, 1991 Page 2 (2) As the interviews concluded, Mayor Stout suggested that each City Councilmember develop a ballot with their name at the top and list their selections. He suggested the City Clerk tally these votes and announce the successful candidates. The votes were cast as follows: Larry McNiel 3 ** J. Michael Lee 2 John Melcher 5 ** Peter Tolstoy 3 ** Sharon Baer 0 Bob Dutton 2 c. ADJOURNMENT The meeting adjourned at 12:00 Noon to Executive Session to discuss pending litigation. At 12:10 p.m. the following was announced: 1) That the Council had authorized Joining with other cities in San Bernardino County to explore legal challenges to the County's implementation of booking and other fees and authorized an advanced retainer of $500.00 toward this end. (0401-12 FEES) 2) MOTION: Moved by Buquet, seconded by Wright to ratify the Council's open balloting that resulted in the selection of Larry McNiel, Peter Tolstoy, and John Melcher to new terms on the Planning Com~ission. Motion carried unanimously, 5-0. The Council adjourned to January 23, 1991, 7:00 p.m. for a Joint meeting with the Cucamonga County Water District and the Chino Basin Municipal Water District to be held in the Tri-Communities Conference Room, 10500 Civic Center Drive, Rancho Cucamonga, California.
