CALL TO ORDER - TAPIA CONFERENCE ROOM
The City of Rancho Cucamonga City Council held a closed session on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 in the Tapia
Conference Room at the Civic Center, 10500 Civic Center Drive, Rancho Cucamonga, California. Mayor Michael
called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.
Present were Council Members: BiII Alexander, Sam Spagnolo, Diane Williams and Mayor Pro Tem Lynne
Kennedy and Mayor L. Dennis Michael.
Also present were: John Gillison, City Manager; James L. Markman, City Attorney; Lori Sassoon, Deputy City
Manager/Administrative Services; Elisa Cox, Deputy City Manager/Cultural & Civic Services; and Jeff Bloom,
Deputy City Manager/Economic and Community Development.

CALL TO ORDER - COUNCIL CHAMBERS
The regular meetings of the Rancho Cucamonga Fire Protection District, Housing Successor Agency, Successor
Agency, Public Financing Authority and the City of Rancho Cucamonga City Council were held on February 1,
2017 in the Council Chambers at City Hall, located at 10500 Civic Center Drive, Rancho Cucamonga, California.
Mayor Michael called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Present were Council Members: Bill Alexander, Sam Spagnolo, Diane Williams and Mayor Pro Tem Lynne
Kennedy and Mayor Michael.
Also present were: John Gillison, City Manager; James L. Markman, City Attorney; Linda A. Troyan, City Clerk
Services Director and Shirr'l Griffin, Office Specialist II.
Council Member Spagnolo led the Pledge of Allegiance.
A. ANNOUNCEMENTS/PRESENTATIONS
Al. Presentation of Certificates of Recognition to Police Department 2016 Award Winners:
Deputy of the Year - Shaun Wallen
Employee of the Year - Kimberly Fuller
Volunteer of the Year — Lucille Diradoorian
Citizen of the Year — Laith Fakhoury
Explorer of the Year — Matthew Watford
Reserve of the Year — Oshin Karami
Chief of Police Boldt, along with the Mayor and Members of the City Council, presented Certificates of
Recognition to Police Department 2016 Award Winners and acknowledged their contributions to the
community.
A2. Mayor Michael informed the public that the City Council will adjourn the meeting with a moment of
silence in memory of Dawson Hartwig, son of San Bernardino County Fire Chief Mark Hartwig, a
former Deputy Fire Chief with the Rancho Cucamonga Fire Protection District. Mayor Michael offered
his condolences on behalf of the City and noted that the City will send a Certificate of Sympathy to the
Hartwig family.

B2. Alma Hill expressed a safety concern when crossing a street at Foothill and Archibald Plaza.

John Gillison, City Manager, introduced Fabian Villenas, Principal Management Analyst who gave the Staff Report
and responded to questions from the City Council.
MOTION: Moved by Council Member Spagnolo, seconded by Council Member Alexander, to adopt the 2017
Legislative Platform. Motion carried unanimously, 5-0.

L2. COUNCIL ANNOUNCEMENTS (Comments to be limited to three minutes per Council Member.)
Mayor Pro Tem Kennedy acknowledged the new changes and improvements to the Agenda and Staff Report
formats.
Council Member Williams announced that she is wearing the color red to recognize February as Woman's
Heart Health month.
Mayor Michael shared with Chaffey College students that in 1893 Chaffey College played against USC and
won the championship.

None.
N. ADJOURNMENT
Mayor Michael adjourned the meeting at 7:39 p.m. in memory of Dawson Hartwig, son of San Bernardino
County Fire Chief Mark Hartwig, a former Deputy Fire Chief with the Rancho Cucamonga Fire Protection
District.
