HomeMy WebLinkAbout2000/04/12 - Workshop Minutes - PC-HPC CITY OF RANCHO CUCAMONGA PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES Adjourned Meeting April 12, 2000 Chairman McNiel called the Adjourned Meeting of the City of Rancho Cucamonga Planning Commission to order at 8:10 p.m. The meeting was held in the De Anza Room at Rancho Cucamonga Civic Center, 10500 Civic Center Drive, Rancho Cucamonga, California. ROLL CALL COMMISSIONERS: PRESENT: Rich Macias, John Mannerino, Larry McNiel, Pam Stewart, Peter Tolstoy ABSENT: None STAFF PRESENT: Brad Buller, City Planner; Dan Coleman, Principal Planner, Douglas Fenn, Associate Planner NEW BUSINESS A. PRE-APPLICATION REVIEW 00-06— RANCHO CUCAMONGA RV AND SELF STORAGE— Review of conceptual site plan for an RV Service including 142,200 square feet of storage buildings, 88 covered RV spaces, 352 RV spaces, and 173 enclosed RV spaces, in the General Industrial District(Subarea 8)of the Industrial Area Specific Plan,fronting Arrow Route and east of Interstate 15 —APN: 229-021-60 Brad Buller, City Planner, reviewed the purpose and basic procedures of the pre-application review. Dan Plies, of the Plies Company, introduced himself to the Commission and reviewed the project. He stated that his company would like to develop the 29-acre site with self-storage units, RV storage, RV service, and a possible RV dealership. He indicated that the self-storage facility and RV storage would be the first uses that would be developed on the property. He stated that he will build a first class facility and that the RV service portion would service the entire Southern California area. He said he envisions his project to be a destination site. Douglas Fenn, Associate Planner, reviewed design issues. The following issues were discussed: • To provide a 45 foot average landscape setback along Arrow Route; • Adequate setbacks for building and parking from public rights-of-ways; • Screening of the project from 1-15 with additional landscaping and quality detail on the building facades; and • Signage standards. All of the Commissioners were in concurrence with staffs comments and thought that the project concept was good. They believed the project would work well with the other surrounding land uses. Brad Buller, City Planner, summarized the Commission's input that the project appears to be viable and he informed the applicant about the submittal process for his project.
