Troyan, MMC, City Clerk Services Director SUBJECT: RESOLUTION CERTIFYING NOVEMBER 6, 2018 MUNICIPAL ELECTION RESULTS. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends: 1. The City Clerk Services Director recite into the minutes the results of the Canvass of the November 6, 2018 election; and 2. Council adopts Resolution declaring the results of the November 6, 2018, General Municipal Election. BACKGROUND: A General Municipal Election was held in the City of Rancho Cucamonga on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, for purposes of electing the Mayor and two Members of the City Council, all for four-year terms. ANALYSIS: The Registrar of Voters of the County of San Bernardino canvassed the returns of the election and has certified the results to the City of Rancho Cucamonga. Upon certification, the City Council shall meet to declare the result of the election. The "Official Canvass" is attached to the Resolution. FISCAL IMPACT: Not Applicable. COUNCIL GOAL(S) ADDRESSED: Not Applicable. ATTACHMENTS: Description Attachment 1 - Resolution No. 18-138 Page 3 ATTACHMENT 1 RESOLUTION NO. 18-138 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CALIFORNIA, RECITING THE FACT OF THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD IN SAID CITY ON NOVEMBER 6, 2018, DECLARING THE RESULTS AND SUCH OTHER MATTERS PROVIDED BY PROVISION OF LAW WHEREAS, a General Municipal Election was held and conducted in the City of Rancho Cucamonga, California, on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, as required by law; and WHEREAS, notice of the election was given in time, form and manner as prescribed by law; that voting precincts were properly established; that election officers were appointed and that in all respects the election was held and conducted and the votes were cast, received and canvassed and the returns made and declared in time, form and manner as required by the provisions of the Elections Code of the State of California, for the holding of elections in general law cities; and WHEREAS, the Registrar of Voters of the County of San Bernardino, has canvassed the returns of the election and has certified the results as attached hereto made a part hereof as "Exhibit A." NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. That the number of registered voters in the City was 89,195, making a total of 58,863 ballots cast in the City. Section 2. That the names of persons voted for at the election for Mayor are as follows: THOMAS JAMES REED 4,263 L. DENNIS MICHAEL 29,143 MARK GIBBONEY *18,068 Total 51,474 Section 3. That the names of persons voted for at the election for Member of the City Council, District 2 are as follows: ELVIRA HARRIS 2,007 KEVIN KENLEY 3,937 KRISTINE SCOTT 4,182 Total 10,126 *Includes 3 Additional Write -In Votes Resolution No. 18-138 Page 1 of 3 Page 4 ATTACHMENT 1 Section 4. That the names of persons voted for at the election for Member of the City Council, District 3 are as follows: BEN CUTLER 1,231 EDWARD DAVID RODARTE 989 RYAN HUTCHISON 4,215 MARC STEINORTH 4,050 JOHN GALLEGOS-CORDERO 1,772 Total 12,257 Section 5. That the number of votes given at each precinct and the number of votes given in the City to each of the persons above named for the respective offices for which the persons were candidates, as listed in "Exhibit A" attached. Section 6. The City Council does declare and determine that: L. Dennis Michael was elected as Mayor for the full term of four years; Kristine Scott was elected as Member of the City Council, District 2 for the full term of four years; Ryan Hutchison was elected as Member of the City Council, District 3 for the full term of four years; Section 7. The City Clerk shall enter on the records of the City Council of the City of Rancho Cucamonga, a statement of the result of said election, showing: 1. The whole number of votes cast in the City. 2. The names of the persons voted for. 3. The measure voted upon. 4. For what office each person was voted. 5. The number of votes given at each precinct to each person, and for and against each measure; 6. The total number of votes given to each person, and for and against each measure. Section 6. That the City Clerk shall immediately make and deliver to the person elected, a Certificate of Election signed by the City Clerk and authenticated; that the City Clerk shall also administer to the person elected the Oath of Office prescribed in the Constitution of the State of California and shall have them subscribe to it and file it in the Office of the City Clerk. Whereupon, each person so elected shall then be inducted into the respective office to which they have been elected. Section 7. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this Resolution and enter it into the book of original resolutions.
