HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018/12/19 - Minutes - SpecialDecember 19, 2018 CITY OF RANCHO CUCAMONGA CITY COUNCIL AND FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES The City of Rancho Cucamonga City Council held a special meeting on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, in the Council Chambers located at 10500 Civic Center Drive, Rancho Cucamonga, California. Mayor L. Dennis Michael called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Present were Council Members Diane Williams, Sam Spagnolo, Mayor Pro Tem Lynne Kennedy and Mayor L. Dennis Michael. Absent: Council Member William Alexander Also present were: John Gillison, City Manager; Jim Markman, City Attorney; and Linda A. Troyan, City Clerk Services Director. B.1. Public Communications on Items Listed on the Special Meeting Agenda. No Public Communications were received. B.2. Recognition of 10 and 15 year Service Awards for Rancho Cucamonga Library Foundation Directors (Teresa Akahoshi, Tina Gilfry and Ruth Leal). Mayor Michael and Members of the City Council recognized Rancho Cucamonga Library Foundation Directors Teresa Akahoshi, Tina Gilfry and Ruth Leal for their years of service. B.3. Recognition of 5 and 10 year Service Awards for Rancho Cucamonga Community & Arts Foundation Directors (Linda Bryan, Tina Chen, Paula Pachon and Mark Rivera). Mayor Michael and Members of the City Council recognized Rancho Cucamonga Community & Arts Foundation Directors Linda Bryan, Tina Chen, Paula Pachon and Mark Rivera for their years of service. BA Wallet Hub 2018: Safest Cities in America. Police Chief Mahoney provided a PowerPoint presentation on the results from Wallet Hub 2018: Safest Cities in America, noting that the City of Rancho Cucamonga ranked 45t" in the nation and No. 1 in the Inland Empire. B.S. Recognition and Acceptance of a Naming Rights Level Donation to the Rancho Cucamonga Library Foundation's Second Story and Beyond Capital Campaign from Randall and Janell Lewis. Randall and Janell Lewis presented a check to Mayor Michael and Members of the City Council in the amount of $1.5 million for the Rancho Cucamonga Foundation's Second Story and Beyond Capital Campaign. Council thanked the Lewis Family for their generous donation. B.6. Recognition of Outgoing Council Members Diane Williams and William J. Alexander. Outgoing Council Members Diane Williams and Bill Alexander were recognized and presented plaques by Assembly Member Chris Holden's Office, Assemblymember James Ramos Office, Assemblymember Mike Morrell's Office, Congressmember Pete Aguilars Office, Congressmember Rutherford, City of Fontana, Inland Empire California Route 66, Cucamonga Water District and the City of Rancho Cucamonga for their dedication and years of service to the community. Certificate plaques will be forwarded to Council Member Bill Alexander who was absent from the meeting. City Clerk Services Director to recite Election Results for the Election held on November 6, 2018. C.2. Resolution Certifying November 6, 2018 Municipal Election Results. RESOLUTION NO. 18-138 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CALIFORNIA, RECITING THE FACT OF THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD IN SAID CITY ON NOVEMBER 6, 2018, DECLARING THE RESULTS AND SUCH OTHER MATTERS PROVIDED BY PROVISION OF LAW City Manager Gillison introduced Linda Troyan, City Clerk Services Director, who gave the Staff Report and recited the Election Results of the November 6, 2018 Election: • That the number of registered voters in the City was 89,195, making a total of 58,863 ballots cast in the City. • That the names of persons voted for at the election for Mayor are as follows: Thomas James Reed 4,263 L. Dennis Michael 29,143 Mark Gibboney 18,068 • That the names of persons voted for at the Election for Member of the City Council, District 2, are as follows: Elvira Harris 2,007 Kevin Kenley 3,937 Kristine Scott 4,182 ■ That the names of persons voted for at the Election for Member of the City Council, District 3, are as follows: Ben Cutler 1,231 Edward David Rodarte 989 Ryan Hutchison 4,215 Marc Steinorth 4,050 John Gallegos-Cordero 1,772 • That the Certified Results Declare that: L. Dennis Michael was re-elected as Mayor for the Full Term of Four Years; Kristine Scott was elected as Member of the City Council, District 2, for the full term of four years; Ryan Hutchison was elected as Member of the City Council, District 3, for the full term of four years. MOTION: Moved by Council Member Spagnolo, seconded by Mayor Pro Tern Kennedy, to adopt Resolution No. 18-138. Motion carried unanimously, 5-0. C3. Administration of Oaths of Office to Newly Elected Officials: December 19, 2018 1 City Council Fire Protection District Special Meeting Minutes City of Rancho Cucamonga I Page 2 of 3 • L. Dennis Michael, Mayor, joined by his mother Marian Michael on the dais. ■ Kristine Scott, Council Member, District 2, joined by her family on the dais. • Ryan Hutchison, Council Member, District 3, joined by his family and friends on the dais. Janice Reynolds, City Clerk, administered the Oath of Office to newly elected officials. C.4. Remarks by the Newly Elected Officials. Mayor Michael, Council Members Scott and Hutchison thanked the community and their family for their support.
