• A RESOLUTION 'OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CALIFORNIA, ADOPTING THE
LOCAL HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN IN ACCORDANCE WITH
THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY
(FEMA) REQUIREMENTS
WHEREAS, the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 requiring local governments to
develop and submit hazard mitigation plans by November 1, 2004; and
WHEREAS, the Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) is considered the
representation of the jurisdiction's commitment to reduce risks from natural disasters, and
serves as a guide for decision makers as they commit resources to reducing the effects of
natural disasters; and
WHEREAS, the local mitigation planning encourages agencies at all levels, local
residents, businesses, and the non-profit sector to participate in the mitigation planning and
implementation process; and
WHEREAS, a committee/task force was developed with representatives from
Administration, Building, Engineering, Fire, Planning and Police departments; and
• WHEREAS, the City of Rancho Cucamonga LHMP includes a thorough
evaluation of the hazards and risks for Earthquakes, Flooding, Wildland Urban Interface (WUI)
Fires and Windstorms; and
WHEREAS, the LHMP is intended to replace appropriate sections of the Safety
Element for only those four hazard types noted above; and
WHEREAS, the LHMP also includes mitigation measures to lessen the severity
of the four hazard types noted above and an approval by the elected officials signifies that the
mitigation measures are accepted and will be incorporated into future grant funding requests
and future budget year programming as funding becomes available; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has carefully considered the matter at their regularly
scheduled meeting of October 20, 2004.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that The City Council of the City of Rancho
Cucamonga does find and determine as follows:
SECTION 1. The City Council approves the Local Hazard Mitigation Plan of the
City of Rancho Cucamonga.

SECTION 2. The City Council hereby authorizes the Mayor to evidence the City •
Council's approval of the Local Hazard Mitigation Plan by his
signature on the transmittal letter accompanying the submission of
the Local Hazard Mitigation Plan to the State Office of Emergency
Services.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify passage and adoption of this
Resolution.
